Sorry, I don't speak Spanish, but here is a link, sent to me by a friend in Barcelona. Aparently, the entire island of Isla Tortuga, pop, 26,000, is no longer on the map...helicopters can't even find it.

1. Wow, pretty scary.
The island is home to 26,000 people. They have been flying helicopters overhead but so far have not been able to locate the island. How horrible.

This IS a major disaster. Now shut the hell up, CNN has some more stories on the fake memo coming up. They know what the news is better than us mere citizens.

26,000 people left the island? All souls lost? Is that what they are implying?

13. The island is still there.
The island (Ile de la Tortue)is volcanic, and has an elevation of 459 meters. That's over 1/4 mile high. No hurricane is going to blow something like that away.

Hurricanes do rearrange minor sand islands, but a lump of volcanic rock doesn't get moved by them.

There may be some small sand spot that isn't there anymore, but the island you are talking about is still there.

15. Tell that to the helicopter pilots who can't find it.
"It's still there. Just not there."

Forgive me, but please read the story. THEY CAN'T FIND THE ISLAND. What do you think, the helicopter pilots just got lost? You're right, it IS a big island, with regular tourist traffic and plane flights in and out...so don't you think maybe someone would find it if it was still there? That is the point of the story, Silverhair! But thanks for your optimism.
