Metaphor Exhaustion
I've grown weary of the comparisons of Iraq to Vietnam.

It's not Vietnam. There's not a civil war, a jungle or a draft. Let's have more than one way of viewing the world, people.

It's Lebanon and we are the Israelis this time.

Actually, it's just Mesopotamia and we are the Romans, Carthogineans, Turks, British or whatever world power happens to be in charge that week.

That is all.

1. Does it really matter???
War sucks and war is only for the unintelligent and barbaric - comparing Iraq to Vietnam is the only way to get through some people's thick heads - because some are old enough to remember.

2. The comparison to Viet Nam has to do with a long drawn out war.
Unpopular and expensive. You are right however to point out that it is not long at this point.

5. Two years in Afganistan....that's a LONG time for a BIG country
to try and defeat a third-world country, without an airforce or a navy...it's a pathetic reflection on bush*....Vietnam was the same...a third-world country, without an airforce or a navy....beat us badly, and finally we left...we could have left anytime, before all those great young men were killed (including my cousin)....

so, Iraq is very much like Vietnam...we are not attacking a REAL force, an army, navy, and airforce that was an equal...we are attacking a third-world country that had no significant military to defend itself with....and just like Vietnam...soldiers are getting killed every single day for NO purpose...while bush* and his minions dally around discussing things and putting out cover-ups to hide the carnage...

Americans for some reason think that all the wars that Amerika fights are just with one exception....Vietnam. Only the most wacked out neo-hawk defends the failure of that "police war".

Iraq was, is , and will be a foreign policy failure for many years to come. They didn't even obey the vaunted "Powell doctrine". Why are we there? What are we doing? and how long will we be there?

Most importantly what price are we willing to pay?
