This is why I think there is some relevance to the BUSH TANG story
Granted, I'd rather be talking about the current messed up war we are currently engaged in, rather than the messed up war from 35 years ago, but the TANG story also has relevance for the political questions we will face after the election. Namely, what happens if Goerge W. Bush wins and reinstitutes the military draft? Will he have the moral authority to compel young men to go off and fight in a war when he was unwilling to fight in a war he supported? While I will oppose a draft no matter who is president, I will not doubt John Kerry's moral authority to administer a draft. I am also more confident that a Kerry Administration would eliminate most of the loopholes that allow the wealthty and well-connected to weasel out. I hope this is the issue that should be raised, rather than hairsplitting debates over "th"'s and forgeries of documents from 35 years ago.

1. there is another connection
Character, bush started lying early in his career, this is part of a pattern. First with the TANG, but it has gone on and on, and on with the forgeries of niger, the WMDs that never existed, the clear air initiative, leave no child behind. et al. the pattern goes back 35 years and the only reason the blue blod who went to a champagne and caviar squadron never faced the consquences is poppy, and we are paying for it... as he has NEVER dael with the conequences of his actions.

Now to the kids, you are right, does he have the authority to send others to die, when he did not choose to do this himself when he suported taht other war? Let the kids decide.

2. and another thing
Bush used the TANG to duck going to the real war and spend his time fucking off. That should be contrasted to Bush's abuse of the National Guard in Iraq today, in effect creating a back door draft of people who have spouses, kids and jobs back home. They are losing their jobs, their health care, their limbs and sometimes their life.

War is hell. Bush is putting the entire burden on the families of Gaurdsmen and Reservists and that is wrong! especially given his own experiences in the TANG.

3. It's very hard
to respect a guy who would have you fight his war. After he used his family connections to avoid fighting in a war he supported.

Remember the mindset of those who support the coWard: They love war as long as it's not them doing the fighting. They are "moral" in name only; it doesn't matter to them if the coWard sends other people's sons & daughters in harm's way; & it doesn't matter that the coWard evaded serving in Vietnam or shirked any military responsibility required of him. The only thing that matters to the KoolAid crowd is that John Kerry had the courage to try to right a huge wrong when he spoke before a senate committee as a 27-year-old.

Never mind that both Nixon & Charles Colson (who found & recruited John O'Neill) apologized to John Kerry for any harm they caused Kerry. Facing this fact would only diminish the credibility of John O'Neill & his recruited smear boat liars.

The coWard is terrified that Kerry will take his job & the coWard will do anything & everything to prevent the pathetic truth from coming out.

Where are your fellow veterans, coWard-in-chief, to vouch for your military service? Where are your military records, coWard-in-chief? Why aren't they easily accessible -- weren't you proud of them? Why do we have to dig for them? We have a right to know about the character of the man who decides that our sons & daughters have to go to war.
