Congressman Dreier to be outed Monday
http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=289

Dreier, alleged to have lived with another man;
Hustler contacts Raw Story

By John Byrne | Raw Story Editor

Rep. David Dreier, a twelve-term Republican congressman from California, is now under the gun of gay activist Michael Rogers, whose site blogACTIVE outed and sparked the resignation of congressman Ed Schrock (R-VA) late last month. He is also the subject of an investigation by Hustler Magazine.

Rogers says he knows the Dreier was living with another man, who did not return his call.

“I was especially interested in talking with Brad Smith about his living arrangements with the Congressman here in DC,” Rogers wrote.

Rogers added Thursday that he plans to put forward more evidence of Dreier’s sexuality as early as Monday.

“More information will be forthcoming early next week,” Rogers said. “I have left repeated messages at Congressman Dreier’s office in an attempt to open dialogue regarding a plethora of information. I have received about the Congressman’s activities.”

Rogers said Dreier’s office did not return his calls, and repeatedly hung up on him.

83. I just don't get....
How a gay person, closeted or not, can be socially conservative. I can somewhat see having economically conservative views, but how do you publicly support anti-gay rhetoric and legislation and then go home to cuddle with your same-sex partner? That to me is the very definition of insanity.:eyes:

these hypocrits were the people who tried to LEGALIZE BIGOTRY in the United States Constitution....I am glad that they are being outed and I hope the VOTERS throw them all out....

reminds me of Clinton's blow-job trials...when Larry Flynt put an ad in the paper, asking for people who had sex with standing members of Congress or high-level government officials...it was a rush of info on the ghastly affairs of blow-job chairman Henry Hyde (is he still around?) who wrecked a marriage, and others....one guy RESIGNED his position in Congress and went home rather than have his sexual matters revealed....

79. Livingston resigned
Livingston was Speaker of the House and he resigned when news of a sex scandal broke. I remember him calling on Bill Clinton to do the same - yeah, right.

That's how we ended up with that bloated sock puppet, Hastert, as the Speaker of the House. Kind of like how they picked Gerald Ford to be the president after Nixon. Find someone that no one can complain about. Forget about judgement and experience. Find someone who didn't do anything too stupid.

Hastert's leading qualification for becoming Speaker is he kept his zipper up.

who puts on the clothes of a thoughtful, valuable human being, you deserve to be exposed. If one of those things that you have hidden is homosexuality, because you think it somehow makes you look weak or vulnerable and you won't fit in so well with your evil brothers, then it is important that you be fully exposed-for all to see.

Nobody that I choose to associate with would try to make fun of you for being gay, but when you choose to hide your sexuality in order to attack others, you deserve no sympathy!

39. Sex lives and abortions are nobody's business.
We're Liberals. I thought we believed the state has no place in people's bedrooms or wombs. Even if those bedrooms or wombs belong to hypocrites.

I know a massive hypocrite who makes a big right-wing/anti-abortion noise all the time, when she had a (secret) abortion during a horrible previous marriage. I'm one of the few who knows her past. But as much as it enrages me, I won't tell anyone. Because I believe in privacy in sex and reproduction. Just as the Clinton/Monica tryst was none of our business, so Dreier's living arrangements are none of our business. No matter how much it may make me CRAZY to hear the positions he espouses.

I don't believe in outing, even for hypocrites. They'll live in their own private hells for the rest of their lives ... just waiting for the shoe to drop. The pressure in their heads must scream for trepanning.

You're absolutely right on that. But we're not talking about the state here, so this part of your post is irrelevant. And the Clinton/Monica thing was the state's action, too, so that's also irrelevant.

As for the rest, I disagree. I'd like the shoe to drop on Dreier and the rest of his ilk.

I'd like to be able to say in a few days, "He got outed the old-fashioned way, he earned it."

His voters will make up their minds if
he's pushed good legislation for them,
but in the meantime they need to ask
why he hasn't been honest with them,
while he's been forcefully against
civil rights in gay partnerships.

Gays shouldn't be ashamed or hide who
they are in this day and age, although
certainly the rightwingnuts have made
it hard for them to be honest. Liberals
should not feel stigmatized by "outing"
anyone...it's nothing to feel ashamed of.

53. My little commentary on gays and lesbians
All creation's people are the children of God.
All are created under our Constitution with
equal rights under the law. Some are more equal
than others as we keep finding out, and gays
and lesbians should have the same laws given
by the Federal government to a married heterosexual
couple when they marry.

Conservatives have made being gay and lesbian
a shameful "choice" as if they had a choice
in who they are and are attracted to.

Committed relationships bound by law should
be celebrated in this country and not be looked
on as a shame based deed.

There is no such thing as outing, if you believe
that gays and lesbians should be celebrated
and honored as our neighbors, friends, family,
contributing members of the human family.

There is only outing if you believe you believe
someone is doing a shameful thing....like conservatives
and the Christian Taliban leaders.

Howabout truth telling from now on if you are making
laws for all of us. We don't care who you love and choose
to live with. Just tell us, so we know where some of
your interests lie.

50. Hypocrites deserve to be outed, as a public service, if he is one.
I don't support outing anyone, if they are simply living their life and being good people. But.. when someone actively works against those who he TRULY lives amongst, then the hypocrisy should be uncovered. I don't know enough about Dreier's work to know if he is truly a hypocrite. Being gay and not supporting gay marriage is not grounds for outing, imho, if that is all they're basing it on. That's more of a spiteful act toward him.

The same for those that proclaim to be ultra-religious, yet live in a way that totally belies it... like the tv preachers.

He's about the only non Southerner the GOP can put on the networks to debate. He and Rangle go at it a lot. If he drops out, they need a new 'spokes-model.'

60. Well, if they accept Arnie...they can get over Dreier....
after all bin Laden was a pal of our CIA
and Republican Congressmen during the time
we opposed the Russians in Afghanistan.
People say bin Laden had a CIA operative's
name and training.

Read Charlie Wilson's War by George Crile.
Most Americans don't even know we trained
bin Laden and the Muhajadeen.

70. Arnie will explode!
That guy can't go from steroid rat pack Hollywood guy to the type of behaivor required of a governor. As a CA native son, I can only hope that the Dem majority will form an avid audience for some defining personal or political scandal. I think the LA Times is ready for some payback and they're loading up. I'll never forgive (not that he cares) Bustamonte for taking that gambling money right after he was in the lead. Talk about Tin Ear syndrome. Keep the faith!

69. I wouldn't assume that he will drop out
He is from California, which isn't exactly a conservative state (as opposed to Shrock, who is from VA). There already is one openly gay GOPer in Congress, and he keeps getting reelected.

71. Yeah but...
I presume the gay cong. is a Dem. Isn't Drier from the foot hills and Pamona territory? He's such a little shit I can only wish him ill. I DO NOT think he sould drop out because he's gay; but if he does, c'est la vie (I'm using all the French I can lately).

84. I don't think so.
He doesn't have strong opposition and
I doubt that voters will vote him out
over this.

72. According to Blogactive Dreier has a 92% rating from Christian Coalition
http://www.blogactive.com/2004/09/congressman-david-dreier-votes-for-all_08.html

I would say that qualifies him as a hypocrite. I could care less about the gayness or straightness of any politican. It is the hypocracy of the situation that deserves exposure. As others have said it is like those who went after Clinton while having their own extramarital flings left and right.

75. Drier outed on Monday - - George W. Bush outed on Tuesday
It appears that Kitty Kelley's book will contain a major bombshell on yet another Republican hypocrite.

81. Well...he's thin and really neat...
(*A little Seinfeld reference. I couldn't resist*)

Who's the Holy Grail of hypocrisy, the one that would make you piss your pants with glee if he (or she) was outed?

I love the idea of (p)Rick Santorum, but mine is Orrin Hatch.

82. I don't know about either of those guys
I do know about Dreier. I'm surprised
he hasn't called a press conference yet.
Too many people know his sexuality for
him to deny it.
