National Guardsmen, Reservists, I Have a Question
To those who have honorably served (Or are still honorably serving) their country in the National Guard or in the Reserves, I have a question. What would happen to someone in the Guard or in the Reserves if they were caught today doing some of the things Lieutenant George W. Bush is accused of having done back in the late 1960's and early 1970's? This overweight, 4-F, middle-aged slacker would dearly like to know.

Thank you.

1. I can tell you
I was in the NG from '69-'75 and I worked in a Headquarters and Headquarters company typing all types of documents. In the Army National Guard missing even one meeting, (which would have been 1/2 a day of the weekend, the total two day weekend consisted of four drills) was bad. A Special Order (SO) was cut for each meeting missed and if a person missed the total weekend then that person was reduced to an E-1 and upon missing one more meeting orders would have been cut placing that person in the real Army. I typed many of them reducing people to E-1.

I have encouraged in this forum that someone in the news media (if there is even a news media left) to go to the national guard units B* was in and look at all the Special Orders and see what was issued. Also back in those days Morning reports (a headcount) was produced for each meeting documenting who attended.

There was a full time person at each guard unit who would be a great asset in pursuing what really went on.

Meetings could be made up but only if permission was granted PRIOR to the missed meeting. This was also well documented. I was in the Alabama and Florida Guard.

2. It wouldn't be pretty: The punishment would likely be rather harsh
