Goodthings our Military has done...
in the last 20 yrs.

1. De-Mining in Afgahnistan. The Soviets left a great number of Landmines behind. Our Troops are clearing them.

10. You're right that we've done good things.
I only wish that Abu Ghraib was tthe worst thing we did, but it wasn't. Shock and Awe slaughtered about 10,000 innocent civilians. If it had been a necessary or just war, I would have been able to deal with that as the price of liberation or protecting America, but since the war was solely based on Bush's whim, it seems like murder to me. But the murderer is Bush. I do not blame the troops because they have to follow orders.

25. They don't have to follow orders
Talk to Camilo Mejia, who had the courage to spend a year in the can rather than participate in Junior's murderous invasion.

That's courage, my friend.

27. Let me put it another way...
I don't expect a bunch of broke-ass poor kids to do that. That's too much to ask of them. They deserve to be getting lawful, just orders.

But yes, I agree that that is brave. I can't say what I'd do in the same situation.

I saw two17 yr old boys with Pro Bush Shirts today . It made me wish I had some recruiting literature to share with them. Support GWB. Then Go fight his war.

24. I have an easier time than most with this...
I've served. Oposition to Military Policy comes easier from someone who has worn a uniform and even easier to Combat Vets. Kerry has and should use this even more than he has.

7. Thanks for posting that.
It is a difficult position we are in as liberals. I realize that our military is doing MANY great things in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and to a degree, I agree with the whores at Faux that those things don't get enough attention.

But then again, there is a near media blackout on pictures of the gory deaths of thousands Bush inflicted on Iraq when he got a wild hair up his ass to attack, just as there is a blackout of images of our maimed soldiers who have come back missing limbs, eyes, and sometimes even minds. Oh, and of course there is the blackout on the coffins.

So as long as the American people are going to be shielded from the results of Bush's optional war, I'm not sure if they've earned the right to see any of the "good stuff we've done."

9. I had a professor who said the military was like an insurance policy...
...you only use it when something bad happens.

the analogy also extends to the costs.... like an insurance policy, you need to balance the cost of the policy with the risks.

21. Sorry to call you on this one but...
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 01:13 AM by manic expression
The American embassy in Iraq said that they had no stance in Arab-Arab conflicts on the eve of the Iraqi invasion. Saddam obviously thought that the U.S. would allow an invasion of Kuwait, and so he invaded (since the U.S. said they wouldn't care). After hearing that America was about to declare war on Iraq, Saddam said he would withdraw if a middle-eastern peace meeting was called. The U.S. refused.
Also, most of the war was a literal massacre. Especially the "Highway of Death" where the Iraqi army was fleeing Kuwait and had no intention or capacity to harm U.S. forces...they were slaughtered by U.S. air power.

26. Saddam said he would withdraw. ok....
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 01:34 AM by greblc
I don't Believe he would have withdrawn. I have friends who fought in the Gulf War who would argue his Intention and Capacity to harm Coalition Forces.

An invasion is an act of agression. He could have assumed some country would protest or counter attack. The UN certainly would have protested invasion even if the US didn't.
