3. Saw it on the local news here in NY...

There were about 12 people who got into the convention w/credentials during the Young Republicans' Hoe-down this morning (or whatever they call it) and began protesting right in the middle of it. There was a little shoving that went on, and a young female fell or got shoved to the ground.

One of the Republican teenagers started kicking and stomping on her before someone pulled her up. Afterward a TV news crew put the camera on him and asked him if he knew they caught him on camera kicking the girl. He didn't react at first, and then said that he never did that.

They said, we have you on camera kicking her. He was shocked. The guy, as I remember had reddish curly hair. I probably saw it on that NY1 news station, if anyone knows what I'm talking about.

32. close, but not quite right.
he was a guy who taught at the U of Chicago up until the 70s. a german jew who just escaped the holocaust, he wrote extensively on religion, politics, and "hidden discourse" in order to create a philosophy that he believed should replace all other philosophical products of the enlightenment.

wolfie, perle and chalabi (?) were students of his, acolytes is a better word. and troskyites. really! a lot of weird stuff can be found in strauss' work, but the key points include that a ruling elite should use religion and fear mongering to oppress the world's masses and control its resources for themselves. ethics and morality are for the 'weak,' deception and lies the tools of those who 'deserve' to rule. sound familiar?

Literally and metaphorically. It's part of the code.

I assume the Republican would say it's her fault for falling on the ground, and if she were a good person god would not have allowed him to kick her.

25. I saw the video on tv last night..
I also think they should charge the person that shoved the protester off of the chair.. he crashed down onto a row of chairs and looked injured. It was one of the most sickening displays I have every witnessed.. I was sick watching it. All the protesters did was yell and hold up signs. The Bush Youth attacked them immediately, and I mean ATTACKED. It was nauseating. Rather than wait for security to handle it, these BUSH YOUTH went nuts on them. The one girl who was attacked was screaming as the security people put her in a headlock. It was TOTALLY uncalled for. Nice to see how polite these Bush Youth are... they were savages.

37. Ummm...it might be better for all involved if this "went away"...
because if it gets into a big bruhaha, the protesters may well face charges for the NY equivalent of inciting to riot or causing a breach of the peace, not to mention gaining access through deception. These are serious charges.

I have a hard time imagining that a judge would find that the protester's actions didn't constitute "fighting words" in that time and place.

I wasn't charged until I pressed charges against my attacker. The cops seemed to be operating on the principle of "keep 'em separated, no blood, no foul" until I insisted that they cite my attacker. The other people in my group were not charged.

But I bet you didn't sneak into the convention under false pretences, unfurl banners and disrupt the proceedings. They will get the book thrown at them, the repubs will see to that. And the nasty little woman-beater needs to get his nads caught in a vice for what he did too.

Of course he'll have a top-notch attorney and get off with it, but at least we might see him in handcuffs...

46. do you know for a fact what she was charged with?
It's one thing to say "hang the guy, and damn the consequences", and an entirely different thing to say "hang the guy because it's in the woman's best interest."

While you're screaming for blood, just remember....some of that blood is more likely to come from the woman than the guy.

If the woman wants to press charges, that's her right. It's NOT your right to say that she has to, or to try and force her hands when the consequences could be very serious for her.

It's my right to say whatever I want. I have two words for you: First Amendment.

Secondly, if you think that the ACT-UP protestors are not already arrested, sitting in jail with a string of charges against them, you're being absurdly naiive.

Thirdly, I never said, or screamed, "hang the guy because..." or anything approaching it, nor am I in a position to "force her hands" and I did not try to do that either.

I called for him to be charged with assault and labelled him a thug. Please drop it, you're getting your underwear in a twist over nothing.

I have a 20 year old daughter and I guarantee you if a punk like that kicked and beat her, he'd have hell to pay. I am pretty sure that I am bigger than him, so I say send him my way and I will pretend it was my daughter that was assaulted. Hopefully the NYPD will jump all over this clown and hopefully, there will be some sort of media somewhere about this disgraceful incident.

I think they are describing the same incident, although it doesn't sound like what I saw in that video....

<snip>
Also taken into custody on Wednesday were a dozen whistle-blowing AIDS activists who infiltrated the Garden during a gathering of young Republicans.

A scuffle broke out, and one young Republican suffered a cut near his temple. A demonstrator, with authorities grabbing her knees and shoulders, was carried off the floor to cheers.
