GOOD LORD! Fox News hits 4.6 million + viewers during convention!
according to Drudge...

CNN/MSNBC are getting creamed with combined viewership less than half that of Fox.

Man oh man...At this rate, they will be passing up the broadcast networks (ABC/CBS etc) in just a few years.

9. Drudge doesn't invent stuff..
he doesn't report/esitorialize anything most of the time...All he does is LINK to stories. If those numbers are right, we are f*cked. ABC, NBC, CBS, etc at least give both points of view most of the time...and their reporters are actually OBJECTIVE...and don't insert their opinions into their pieces. If we lose them, we are really screwed.

11. Um We're not fucked. We are BETTER off if Fox has high ratings
because it will more likely result in a network (cable or other) going a lot more pro-dem--Sort of like Air America for TV. Remember that these networks have to make money or there gone. There is a huge market for the channel that decides to cover stories theat we wish to see.

Also, Fox will lose more and more credibility in the mainstream

It would be great if we had some fair and independent media, but since we don't, I'll take Air America TV.

15. I agree. FAUX has the neocon fundie wingnut audience locked up.
It's ridiculous for MSRNC and Cheney's Nonsense Network to try to dig into the FAUX viewership--which compared to the broadcast networks, is meager as it is.

If they ever decided to...(and I know this is a heretical notion)...REPORT THE TRUTH (GASP!), let alone lean left, they would both kick FAUX's asses.

25. strange
I see the opposite happening...the networks will want some of Fox's action, so they will emulate them...move to the right and try to drain their viewership. We may lose the final hints of liberalism on TV.

20. Yes he does.
He "invents" sources in the Kerry campaign, and he invented the Kerry intern story. He also invented leaks in the Clark campaign.Drudge is a slime and shouldn't be credited on DU.JMHO.I see no reason to trust anything he reports.BTW he reported the dem convention would dump Kerry and nominate Hillary. But "he doesn't invent stuff". Nah!

2. Must... Drink... More... Koolaid!!!

Freepers must be having little mini-gasms of cable news intake.

Oh well, at least we know how many of them there are (potentially).

Think we'll get a warning before it becomes mandatory to tune in
the state propaganda channel, er, I mean Faux?

4. ALL voting Republican!!
4.6 million Repuke voters...Hummmmm out of a population of 300+ million! Take comfort in knowing about 10-15% of that number, about a half a million, were on the streets protesting Sunday in New York...mostly New Yorkers alone!! Also take comfort that over 10 million people, 130 million dollars worth, actually PAID MONEY to watch Fahrenheit 911!!!!

5. Only the base is watching
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 04:07 AM by splat
I haven't had time this week to watch a shred of TV, even though I usually try to catch at least some Matthews, Olbermann and Stewart.

Others have told me they're just not watching the convention, even people who intended to because they thought they ought to, but somehow didn't get around to it.

But Fox's faithful have made time.

That's what I think these ratings reflect.

6. I don't buy those numbers
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 04:09 AM by salvorhardin
Fox likes to use the average viewers rating. This counts the average number of viewers watching a station or a show in a typical minute. This way, viewers who tune and stay tuned in for a long time have a greater than proportional impact on the ratings as they can get counted multiple times during the day.

The cume is more important since it tallies the cumulative total number of viewers who watch a channel for at least six minutes during a given day. The cume gives equal weighting to light viewers and heavy viewers alike.

Without knowing what number Drudge is "reporting" you can't really know what it means -- assuming the number itself is even valid.

For a much more detailed and knowledgable article about how Fox and ratings, see this article over at FAIR.

7. Good CNN and MSNBC are losing there asses
if they were smart they would stop trying to appeal to fox viewers, and appeal to 60% of the people in this country

8. I totally agree! They don't need Repuke money!!
If they could attract all the Democrats in this country the ad revenue alone would be VERY lucrative! Unless, of course, they are being controlled through intimidation...then they're just spineless pussies with all the journalistic integrity of a Mad Magazine!

10. Today's Americans (particular republicans)
are like the Germans of the 1930's. They have fallen in love with their propaganda. Only the few good Americans left see the danger in the new America's "good Germans" or even recognize it.

12. This is NO big deal, repukes rarely watch anything else!
Look at the big picture here. The majority of Americans go about their daily lives getting info from different sources. The repukes are cultish, they will have 1 channel on thur out the day. They live and breed FAUX tv, this is a fact.

14. Interesting, they are getting only just over 1.5% of US population....
which, according to the stats is 293,027,571 (July 2004 est.). So, I would say, they are failing miserably, just not quite as miserably as CNN and MSNBC. It shows that very, very, very few Americans are watching any of them.

the others are becoming more conservative, it's all about ratings with no concern for honest journalism.

18. LOL exactly!
Other than those of us "obsessed" with politics and pundits, the rest, be it in Canada, US or elsewhere, are NOT terribly interested in Tweety, O'Reilly or the Leslie and Judy show.

21. This is a temporary thing. I've read that...
Fox (or as they call themselves, "the most watched!") has fewer viewers than CNN, but the Fox viewers watch longer. Hence, the moniker "most watched."

Repubs watch Fox. This is a Repub Convention.

Are a lot more people watching the RNC than watched the DNC? Wouldn't surprise me but am curious.
