CNN's Political Ratings Dropping

CNN's political coverage scratched in the 25-54 demo and its numbers hovered at MSNBC levels on Tuesday, a cable news source said. Inside Politics averaged 432,000 viewers and 43,000 in the demo. Crossfire averaged 390,000 viewers, 43,000 of whom are in the demo. Wolf Blitzer Reports earned 364,000 viewers, with 44,000 aged 25-54.

Scratched means they got a 0.0 rating.

On monday CNN only averaged 387,000 viewers in total day numbers.

Miller & McEnroe Both Scratch on Monday

Dennis Miller scratched with 103,000 viewers, and at 10pm, McEnroe scratched with only 67,000.

36. That would be an achievement...
I would start watching TV news again. As it is I get all my news from reading print papers on line, only watch a few political shows such as the Daily Show and Real Time because they are informative and entertaining. I found Air America and Sirius Left to be a far better way to keep up on what is going on politically. I prefer Air America, but when it's a rerun I will switch to Sirius Left, they have some good shows as well such as Ed Shultz and The Young Turks. I only wish they would drop Alan Colmes from FOX and pick up one of the guys from LA.

5. From yesterday: MSNBC Beats CNN Total-Day, "CNN has to be embarrassed"!
This is going on, and CNN keeps running full-speed to the right? Are they idiots??? Their viewers, like many of us here, are moving to MSNBC in droves.

Monday Ratings: MSNBC Beats CNN Total-Day
MSNBC and CNN dueled again on Monday. In total day, MSNBC averaged 398,000 viewers to CNN's 387,000. (FNC had 943,000.) "Olympics or no Olympics, CNN has to be pretty embarrassed getting beat by MSNBC in 24 hours of coverage," a source said. In primetime, it was still no race -- FNC had 1,911,000 viewers to CNN's 852,000 and MSNBC's 370,000.

> The 7 and 8pm hours were competitive: Hardball averaged 534,000 viewers, while 360 had 410,000; Zahn averaged 422,000, while Countdown had 410,000. (That's a statistical tie -- the demo was only 2,000 viewers apart.)

> Other show #'s: O'Reilly: 2,442,000; H&C: 1,792,000; Greta: 1,498,000; Larry King: 1,396,000; NewsNight: 679,000; Norville: 237,000; Scarborough: 369,000

54. Countdown's ratings are also much improved from earlier in the year
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 11:33 AM by scmirage
Keith Olbermann's still got the #3 cable news show at 8pm, but he has tied with Zahn on occasion recently. :bounce: Day-in, day-out Countdown is the best news show on TV. And it's funny too!

CNN's got to be run by the biggest bunch of idiots that I've ever seen. They lose their market share to Fox so what do they decide to do? Move to the right! Uhm--yeah, that makes sense. The conservatives have long-departed for Fox so CNN thinks that they're going to come back to CNN once Fox has served them up the Kool-Aid just the way they like it?????

All CNN has succeeded in doing (besides losing all credibility they may once have had) is pissing off the left by moving right. Now the lefties have left them too and their ratings are going down even more. I'm having a real hard time working up sympathy for them though. How many e-mails, faxes, letters, and phone calls have we deluged them with and how many times have they ignored us? It wasn't like we didn't warn them. I think the execs were so smug that they really believed we'd watch them no matter what. Can't you hear them now? "Sure, they're complaining, but they're still watching". Well, the ratings prove we're not anymore!

45. Mathews is still better than anyone on CNN.
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 07:33 AM by Bleachers7
No matter what Mathews says, he has a beter show than any political show on CNN. Dobbs and Aaron Brown are pretty good, but they are stuck with a bunch of lunatics. CNN is otherwise unwatchable. MSNBC's other big star is Olberman. And Scarborough is an ass, but at least he doesn't hide it.

7. CNN gave up on the news business years ago.
When they saw Fox eating their lunch they figured they'd go more Foxy. The bigs at CNN thought the Fox watchers just wanted more criticism of the Dems with their news. CNN never realized that Fox viewers didn't want news at all, just propaganda to reinforce their warped world view. CNN will never draw Fox viewers.

I predict that with their current programming model, they'll be out of business in 4 yrs.

run CNN-I in place of the drivel we see here.. They would see the ratings climb...

and they could still "use" some of their "stars"..just invite one guest at a time, and let them TALK...

lots of shows on CNN-I do not have "defined" lenghths.. If an impostant subject is deing covered, they will continue with it..

The "show" format has KILLED CNN's credibility..

my viewing of CNN has dropped 80%. I'm sure this is happening everywhere that people are able to get AAR. Instead of a lot of spin, lies, ommissions and scandalous murder story distractions, to try to sift the truth out of, it's refreshing to get the news items and commentary on AAR that CNN and the other channels refuse to carry.

The CNN ratings don't surprise me either. Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems that they let the Bushies ramble on endessly and just as it's time for the Dem to respond, they never fail to say..

..."We're going to have to leave it at that, we'll have you both back to debate this again at another time"

As far as MSNBC, Chris Mathews of Hardball is for the most part ok.. but he has his days when you love him, and days when he really ticks you off..

As far as MSNBC, I have a lot of respect for Keith Olbermann on Countdown.. Now he, I can handle! :headbang:

There is the off chance that they realize that Fox has the conservative audience and imitating Fox is a recipe for nothing, and if they were smart, they would reach for other demographics...

23. Sad human cost of CNN decline
Hey,

I've come to hate the CNN pundits as much as any of y'all, and feel terribly betrayed by a news source I once trusted. But cannot cheer at news of the network's decline, after reading Bonnie Anderson's new book News Flash. There are so many good professionals trying to do their jobs despite the "stars" and pundits and corrupt leadership. They are the ones to suffer while the rightwingers run the network into the ground.

28. I wonder daily how President Kerry will
be treated by the news media and how he will handle them. Fox will be all anti-Kerry all the time, the broadcast networks will be more positive about Kerry than they have been about Bush lately (unless he screws up as badly which is impossible) and CNN will stand with its finger to the wind. They will do any damn awful anti-Democratic and anti-democratic thing they think will help their market share.

But then if they think fairness rather than rightwing bias might make them a dollar more a week, there's hope.

37. CNN's move to the right (Reich) = tanking ratings. What to do?
Watch them move even further to the right. The groupthink at the highest levels will go something like this:

"We need to focus more on our core product. The consultants say we need to pay more attention to the basics and minimize the tuneouts. Folks, we've got a product to sell here and we've got to work even harder!"

Nobody will dare mention that the product itself might be a dud. CNN will try harder than ever to fling their feces at the wall and make it stick. It will ultimately benefit Fochs.
