of course I entered as an E-3. Hell after a year and a half I had enough points (with college credits, awards, a PT score) to be an E-6, don't think I didn't make the NCO's VERY aware of that. If I had gone to PLDC I would have had the Sgt. stripes put on me the day I got back, same with whatever the E-6 school is called. Oh yeah the other enlisted guys loved to rub that in the lifers faces too. Hell I even got saluted a couple of times by NCO's not in my unit. The boys loved that too.

10. I don't believe that is correct
Everybody receives the National Defense Ribbon after completion of Basic Training. During Basic Training National Guardsmen and regular army are identical. I believe everyone has to have Basic Training. Why Bush* was not wearing that ribbon in the photo Walt showed is interesting. Maybe Bush* never took a Basic Training Course.

11. Nope, the criteria for the NDSM is cleaar, Active Duty ONLY
Bush was a Guardsman. The criteria during the Vietnam conflict were clear:

active service:
1 Army National Guard and US Army Reserve forces personnel on short tours of duty to
fulfill training obligations under an inactive duty training programme.
2 Any service member on temporary duty or tempoaray active duty to serve on boards,
courts, commissions, and like organisations.
3 Any service member on active duty for the sole purpose of undergoing a physical examination
