Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 05:10 PM by newsguyatl
U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine is expected to issue a statement shortly ending speculation that he will run for Governor in 2004. Corzine spoke with Gov. James E. McGreevey earlier today.

no link yet. and this is word of mouth. should hear something soon.

3. I figured he wouldn't
It's hard to find someone that would want to leave a senate seat (especially after he spent so much to win it), to go govern a state as crazy as NJ.

Plus, I heard someone mention that he could be a possible treasury secretary under Kerry. Now that would be cool though Corzine seems like a good guy and we need someone like him in the senate (his vote record has been pretty liberal for the most part).

12. Thank goodness--now let McGreevey stay the course!

All you NJ Dem "leaders" BACK THE CHENEY OFF, let McGreevey resign after the election like he wants to, get the voter's minds back on winning with Kerry, and support the deputy governor. You have all next year to fight over who should be next. You won't have to worry about the GOP getting their paws on the governor's seat through a special election!

Statement from Senator Jon S. Corzine

“Today I spoke to Governor McGreevey to express my concerns about this difficult time for his family, the Governor himself, and most importantly, the people of New Jersey.

“The Governor made clear in our conversation his absolute intent to serve until November 15, 2004. I accept that decision as final.

“In light of the Governor’s position, I want to make clear that my priority is to serve the people of New Jersey in the United States Senate. I will continue to work for the election of a Democratic majority in the Senate and for the election of John Kerry to the White House so that we can work together to improve our security at home and abroad, build a stronger economy for all Americans, improve health care, and provide educational opportunity for every child.’’
