3. I was trying to think in general terms,
but since we can agree that the current conflict in Iraq is complicated, let's say, the War in Afghanistan, or the First Gulf War.

2. Why would anyone be "pro war"?
I think most sane people are anti war, except as a matter of survival. It's the last resort when you are threatened or attacked, and all other means have failed.
Who would be pro war?

5. You're right,
I'm just using the the generally accepted terms. No sensible person is pro-war, but I'm thinking in terms of defense through military action, versus sustained diplomacy. Let's say you opposed the Iraq War. Was that based on the idea that Saddam was not a threat, or from a pacifist belief? Or, did you support the war?

8. No threat, didn't support.
The USSR was a far more 'real' threat for decades, at least in their ability to harm us. And the despite the highly satirical "Dr. Strangelove", I think there were very high ranking members of our military establishment who would have relished a 'pre-emptive' strike.

Iraq never has been and never was a threat to us.

11. Only Americans are Pro-War.
Because we have the protective geography. We watch it from afar, unlike the rest of the world that has'had it in their back yards.
If you're Pro-War you are a sniveling coward unless you enlist and go fight.

4. War is always a failure.
Its like a fistfight, it is never really neccessary, sure it happens, sometimes you are justified in doing it, but at some point along the line somebody should have done somethign differently. And things will probably be better off if you avoid it anyway, even if you can justify doing it.

I'm glad I'm not completely alone.

9. If I had been president during times of war, or could have cast a vote....
...these are the ones I would have fought without question:

1. Revolutionary War
2. Civil War
3. WWI
4. WWII
5. Kosovo intervention

I'm sure there are some others I could have been convinced to fight and there are some (like Viet Nam) I would never have fought.

10. I appreciate this thread for it's
prominent usage of the correct phrase "for all intents and purposes". If I see anyone use the word "intensive" in this phrase I sort of freak out.

Thanks!
