Why the turnaround with Chris Matthews ??
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 11:20 PM by kentuck
Does he want the job of Press Secretary under President Kerry? I doubt it. But I do think he always wants to be on the winning side - it doesn't really matter if it's Repub or Democrat. And he believes that Kerry is going to win. He wants to be the one person in the media that has a key to the White House when that happens. It's called "sucking up". That's what he's doing, in my opinion.

2. He was chuckling with a Bush operative about Kerry's IWR vote today

I think he panders to whoever is buying the next drink. That's my guess.

5. Positioning
Why did the Pres. of Fox News endorse Kerry?
Why did the Pres. of the Carlyle Group endorse Kerry?
They're just positioning. Is the prequel to the disgusting game that takes place, the bowing and scraping, the fawning, the 'gee whiz he's powerful' dance that goes on whenever there is a change in Presidents about 20 miles down the road from me. Democrat or Republican, the mandarins get all 'atwitter' when the new 'big-boy' rolls into town. They forget, this guy will be working for us.

6. Swiftboat Liars
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 11:48 PM by troublemaker
Matthews has the emotional make-up of an idealistic American Catholic boy of about twelve. He thinks some foolish things sometimes, but he is always at least open to moral or idealistic argument.

The swift-boat liars are distinctly offensive in a way that transcends politics--something that separates the Americans from the whatevers. They're like comic-book villains. (Matthews likes Bush but really has it in for Cheney who, again, is like a comic book villain.)

14. But also the Peace Corp
He gave a wrapup on his Sunday show that was good. Don't know if there are transcripts up on it but essentially he said, people are people and want to be treated humanely.

12. Tweety's offspring are approaching draft age. Contemplating four
more years of Bush and PNAC could keep a thinking man awake at night.

15. Agree...Matthews panders...
Yes, I agree...just watch his show enough and you'll see he is like Larry King - he kisses whatever ass is in front of him at the time.....

Tip O'Neill must be dizzy from spinning in his grave all this time from watching his prodigy turn out so rotten....

16. I think that he was just pissed because...
The GOP used his show, well a partial clip from his show, in an attempt to falsify Kerrys political position. I've only been watching him for the past 2 or so years but I do know that the one thing that he hates the most is when people lie. And seeing how the GOP have been throwing out HUGE WHOOPERS here as of late, its no wonder that he is jumping on them like stink on shit. I believe that the kerry quote just sent him over the edge tonight. The GOP really fucked up on that one. They really made bush look like shit. I really think that was the point that Chris Mathews was putting across. I just loved that little line about 'Maybe you should show Bush the whole interview instead of just feeding him the lines.' :)

18. They are all whores
What do you really think the point to cable news is? It's to make money. They could give a damn if they report the news. They just want to get people to watch them and make money. The best way to do that is to report only divisive issues on their talk shows to get people to hate the other party and wait for mouth piece so and so to get in a good zinger for their side. And by the way MSNBC, CNN,& Fox are all talk (scream) shows. No news there. No one has made news there either. Why would someone say something of interest when the other stations won't be able to cover it as it happens? That is why the only good or valuable news comes from news conferences. That way ALL the stations can carry it.

Anyway, they all have interests in reporting the news and they all want to make more money so they are all whores.

19. The election isn't over yet.
Give him some time. All it will take is the sight of
Bush wearing jeans and rolled up sleeves, and he'll fall in love all over again.

20. Any chance he's honest?
He seems to be to me. Sometimes people want to believe things, and then the reality check comes in. I hate to point this out, but the Dems are NOT perfect; I like the idea of someone calling EVERYONE on their nonsense -- its what I want journalists to do -- displaying integrity. I've only started watching him since you folks began talking about him "rocking" so please keep in mind I have no previous knowledge of his character.

21. Well, I don't even own a TV,
so I never saw a show of his until the primaries when some of his segments were put online. But he was pretty bad, kind of like a teenager with a new crush every day. He voted for Bush in 2000, if I recall, and was harshly critical of Clinton before that. I've read some transcripts of some of his shows, and he was pretty pro-Bush, and uncritical of anything the administration did. He talked glowingly of how "manly" Bush looked in blue jeans on his Texas "ranch."

When the primaries began heating up, he gushed over Dean, and said Dean was his guy. There was some silly, giddy talk about Dean's forearms -- I'm not making that up -- and then when Dean started collapsing, Matthews dumped him like a hot potato, and made fun of him like everyone else.

Now, who can say? The guy has been all over the map, in a way that suggests he isn't the most reliable of allies to have. I don't think he's anywhere close to being the worst out there, but he's not the kind of person who seems to stick to his guns very much. It seems he is currently upset because the Republicans abused his show, which is an inadvertent slap at his journalistic integrity, but when this is over, who knows what or whose body parts Matthews will be gushing over next?

Yawn...Tweety is a TV Whore and he sure as hell know who signs his check. He bashes Repukes and their ilk here and there just to get new viewership.

We all know who's side he comes down on 99% of the time....
