Washington D.C, security lockdown?
Does anyone have any information regarding this?

Thom Hartmann was discussing this on his show today.

Saying they are barricading re-routing traffic, etc.

The theory about this is that they are attempting to "push the envelope" i.e. to see what they can get away with, get the people used to this, see how far they can go.

Any info?

2. On
On Constitution Ave. and Independence Ave. there are 21 new checkpoints. They were published in the Post.
Penn. Ave which has been closed at the White House is proposed to be closed further out. Primarily truck traffic is detained but cars are also subject to stop/searches.

The talk is of a "virtual perimeter" in DC where all search and seizure is to be considered reasonable. How big they are talking about and how "virtual" has not been discussed publicly.

Only a few merchants have cried foul but the spineless mayor pretends he has no say.

Tours of the White House are by invitation by Congress members.

Tours of the Capitol are to be rerouted to a new "visitors center".

3. Search and seizure .. interesting that just a day or so before
a letter was sent to librarians to pull some research material from shelves and destroy it regarding search and seizures and how Americans can get their possessions back w/o all the lawyer mumbo jumbo. Forms were a part of the information to be destroyed.

4. It's honestly not as bad as everyone is saying.
I work on K Street, 3 blocks from IMF, 4 blocks from the World Bank. Aside from guys with machine guns wandering around, it's not overblown. Yeah, traffic is being rerouted, but traffic barely moves in the area (Farragut N., Farragut W., McPherson Sq.) that it seriously isn't a major inconvenience. I also live on Capitol Hill and drive past several of the checkpoints on my way home. Again, most of the road around the Capitol have been closed since 9/11, so people KNOW which roads to take and not to take. If you do, you just roll down your window and show ID. Not a big deal. People are overreating. And I don't mind it one bit because I am absolutely convinced something is going to happen in my city b/w now and Nov. 2. My 2 cents...
