1. I'm curious too . . .
I've actually asked a couple of republican/conservative friends "Why should I vote for Bush?" - in an entirely rhetorical sense, of course. Usually, I'm given responses that come straight from the GOP's RNC Research page "Flip-Flopper, Fiscal responsibility, Left of mainstream"

When I point out that their actually telling me why I shouldn't vote for Kerry, they usually stop, and seem a little blank before giving me the "War on Terror" answer. I'm shocked, because most of these people are people who I respect intellectually - if not politically. In general, our differences - when I look at them separate from the political - are negligible. I have to say, sometime I just don't understand.

3. they want goodies--like the tax breaks.
Maybe even the end of the IRS (a recurring repug rumor). Plus repugs love ideas like the privatization of social security--they think that they will actually end up with more money if they have more control over their future (ridiculous--everyone knows the government does a better job with money).

I also know a lot of them who want school vouchers (especially Catholics and other religious people--who are blinded by the selfish desire to send their children to private schools that they think are "better" than public schools)--as a teacher I think we should jail these people who do not want to support our public school system.

But--yes--if you are a selfish person--who only cares about your own pocket book and the future of your OWN children and family--well then Bush has some policies that have a lot of appeal. BUT if you are a person who cares about society at large--and the social programs that it needs to survive--well then you know what that it is just evil to vote for your own pocketbook.
