G. GORDON LIDDY Tried to Assassinate a Journalist w/ Nixon!!
Absolutely disgusting. Of course, the right treats him like some kind of hero. He's slime, lightyears worse than even Ann Coultwhore.

From yesterday's weekend All Things Considered, about journalist Jack Anderson:

Mr. FELDSTEIN: Well, it's pretty wild, but it's true. The CIA started spying on Anderson under Nixon which was illegal, and Anderson found out about it and he sicced his nine kids--he's a devote Mormon and has nine children--on the CIA agents and they waved and let the air out of the tires of the agents and made sport of it all. So everything Nixon tried, you know, didn't seem to work and finally he (Nixon) turned to smearing him sexually and an assassination plot.

NAYLOR: Now what did the assassination plot involve? I mean, was this something that Nixon was directly involved with?

Mr. FELDSTEIN: We don't know. Here's what we do know--and it's been really interesting. I've been going through the National Archives documents on this and the White House tapes. We do know that E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, two names that would become famous a few weeks later during the Watergate break-in when they were arrested as part of that, secretly met at The Hay-Adams Hotel in March of 1972, a block from the White House, and they discussed rubbing out Jack Anderson, and they discussed various ways they were going to kill him. First, they talked about putting LSD in his drink. The trouble was as Mormon and a teetotaler, he didn't drink alcohol. So that was out. So then they talked about making him crash in an automobile accident, but they would have to go to the CIA and use a special car for that. So finally G. Gordon Liddy volunteered to kill Anderson himself personally by knifing him, slitting his throat, and staging it as a mugging that would look like a Washington street crime. At the last minute, this assassination plot was aborted, and a few weeks later, the men were arrested in the Watergate break-in and never had a chance to put their plan into operation.

1. I think they were going to blow up the Brookings Institute, too
Speaking of Jack Anderson, I didn't know he was a Mormon.

What ever happened to him? Is he still alive?

3. Looks like he just retired last week....
I had forgotten about him but I can't imagine why. He was pretty infamous during the days of Watergate.

Just another right wing, jackbooted stinking pile of human excrement...

Fun to play near, but you wouldn't want to turn your back on it.

7. I keep forgetting that what seems like old news to some
is real news to people who haven't heard it....

Yeah, Gordo was one of the weirder figures ratcheting around the Nixon Administration...he and Chuck Colson had a scheme to erase all of Tricky Dick's tapes after the House Judiciary Committee seized them with some sort of giant magnet on a truck....

The guy who organized the "Swift Boat committee to lie about Kerry," or whatever they're called, is a Colson alumnus....

8. And these MONSTERS are reborn in full with the Imperial Heirarchy
Why, the insanity alone to send that anthrax out and murder those people (the first being the tabloid reporters who printed drunken pictures of the Imperial Daughters) takes more Nazi Will than Liddy and Hunt put together.

Things ARE MUCH WORSE now on that score, and much more "underground".

THAT is what the Busheviks learned from Watergate, how better not to get caught.

THAT is ALL they learned.

10. I Think This Accounts for All the Weird Charges About Clinton
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 03:58 PM by ribofunk
I could never understand the accusations of Clinton having had people murdered -- I mean, it's just so unbelievable. At least to me.

Then it occurred to me after reading this article: It seems reasonable to the right wing because the NIXON ADMINISTRATION ACTUALLY DID IT! Or at least had people targeted. It's full-blown projection of one's personal faults onto someone else.

Is there any indication from the material whether Nixon was personally involved with these discussions or approved assassination of American citizens?
