Falwell: Judge Moore is a hero (MSNBC) Conason Next
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 12:12 AM by Cush
just said on MSNBC

Barry Lynn: He's a disgrace

Falwell: Chuck Schumer(sp) (Sen NY) is a religious bigot. Religious people are now being treated the way 'colored' (his words not mine) were treated in the past

Can we please bring this man into the 21st Century?

1. Moore lost.
He lost.

His monument is going to be removed.

Even his fellow GOP officials in Alabama turned against him.

He lost.

Can we maybe take some satisfaction in all this rather than act like we lost?

Roy Moore Lost.

3. Exactly which part of separation of church and state,
don't they understand? These disengenuous religious phonies won't tell you that since these American Talibornagains put up that stone idol. The judge has been petitioned by other religions to put up their symbols, one request was for a picture of Martin Luther King to be hung on the wall. And the phonie holly roller judge said no to all requests.

So yes, this judge is trying to get the government to sanction one state(eventually national) religion.

White trash Christianity is filled with liars , bigots and hypocrites. And in their attempt to oppress others they say that they are the ones being fed to the lions. Well hell, if there were these kind of religious Christian deviants back in the Roman days, i understand why they were fed to the lions.I give them a thumb down.

5. "White Trash"?
Do you have any idea how offensive that slur is?

If you want to talk about right wing extremists, then say so. If you want to talk about theocrats, then say so.

But white trash has for more than 150 years been a term for the poorest of the poor whites, the ones that even the poorest black people in the years of slavery looked down on, the most wretched people you can imagine.

Are you talking about them? Do you honestly think that Moore is anything other than a bourgeois demagogue?

It never cases to amaze me--though it should have years ago--how even the most genteel liberals are so at ease with the nastiest forms of class privilege.

7. I disagree,
Trash is trash, and you don't have to be poor to be it. Just lack manners and appropriate behavior. And it comes in all colors of the rainbow. Lying about your true intentions and using religion as a facade to do it, is trashy. It demeans spirituality.

I have met homeless people that are by far more classy than these charlatans. It has nothing to do with economic stature but rather self stature, it's all about integrity and honesty. And right wing Christianity has neither, therefore....

11. Yes, but,
"white trash" has been used to refer to the poorest of the poor for well over 150 years.

It's a bit shaky to use the term and then say, "But I'm using it differently than it's historical meaning. I have my very own unique personal definition that has nothing to do with the way everyone else has been using it for centuries!"

Besides, would anyone describe the Bushes, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Rice, etc. as "white trash"? They're the ones who wanted the war and got it, yet we had a thread here last spring called "I Hope the Rednecks are Happy--They Got Their War."

Maybe I missed the memo, but I don't remember poor rural people taking over the world financial and economic establishments. Many of the "rednecks" cheered the war, but the people who pushed for it are the flowers of Wall Street. No "white trash" there.

Matthews is neither Liberal or Conservative.

CBS, ABC, the WP, NYT are balanced.

On Radio: Liberals aren't given a chance for the radio, Examples: Malloy and Rhodes.

Lol: Ann ran from a debate on CNBC, just ask the producers

8. Interesting that Falwell would make that comparison
being as he was one of the bigots who was in favor of segregation of the races - and I don't recall any tearful (or any other kind) apologies from him for that stance. Besides the notion that religion is discriminated against in the U.S is just so much poppycock. Churches don't pay property taxes and are subsidized by the government as a result of the deductibility of contributions. They often get breaks and special exemptions on local zoning ordinances. Because the courts have ruled that the Constitution does not allow the establishment of religion by the government is in no way discrimination against religion - it actually protects religion from government control - Falwell and the other American Taliban can't see that.
