Log Cabin Republicans

Can anyone please help me understand this concept? I never understood how women and minorities could vote Republican, but at least Republicans fake like they give a damn about these groups. Republicans are openly hostile towards gays, they treat them like second class citizens. I read the website and it makes me so angry because these people are so desperate to be accepted, they are prostrating themselves before a group of heartless criminals. Why?

On Edit: Just in the "who we are" part, it smacks of desperation to fit in with a group that doesn't want them.

Some people are striving to feel elite by association. They equate Republicans with lots of money and think it may rub off, they are usually poor and uneducated but some how feel a little more important when they vote for the right.

I'ved seen it in the UK where people as poor as church mice still voted Conservative.

Pschologically, it must be a manifestation of self loathing. Maybe the guilt trip that society has layed on them for their innate sexuality forces them to support those who would oppress them most.
