Bush has decided to go "positive" with his latest ad.... Why?
They showed the entire ad on FOX-TV last night - on the Hannity and Hannity's Bitch Show -(I stole that from another brilliant DUer :) ) But, it was so different from the others that have flooded the homes with the negativity of Mr Bush and his "accomplishments". Anyone else seen this latest ad?

11. "we've turned the corner"
which is a horrible idea, because

1) you're admitting things sucked
2) you're telling people that everything is better now

the trick is getting people to believe #2, and it's a hard sell. They're just going to remember that #1 is Bush's fault.

6. "moving America forward"
Move America Forward was that GOP group that waged the failed campaign against F911.

7. They are trying to claim that we are the party of hatred and that the
speeches coming out of the convention were doom and gloom. Doesn't matter that that's not AT ALL what happened, that's what their talking points are. In that light, if they paint themselves as being positive and optimistic, they draw an even stronger contrast. They'll come out swinging mud (and worse!) soon enough, I'm sure!

12. Election is a referendum on the incumbent
Kerry needs to convince the public that Bush has done a bad job AND that he is a viable alternative.

Bush needs to argue that he has done a good job AND that, in any case, Kerry isn't up to the job.

Bush tried to define Kerry before much of the public knew about him, (flip-flopper, etc), plainly the best time to do it. Now, Bush needs to work on his approval ratings. To do that, a positive message is needed. He wants to show the undecided voters that there is no need for the alternative.

19. Kerry also told the story today in Greensburg about the Bush staffer
who was overheard by a reporter that people who were unhappy about the quality of the new jobs that have been created should either find a new job or go on Prozac.

Kerry then said something like they are so out of touch that they don't realize that many of these people can't AFFORD to go on Prozac because they have no health insurance.

My son just told me he thought Edwards said this. Oh well, one of them said this.

14. I haven't seen it
But I'm not really surprised. My favorite part of Kerry's speech (okay, one of my favorite parts) was when he spoke directly to Dubya and headed off all the nasty, negative, untrue responses that he knew his speech would generate from the GOP. I thought that was brilliant - if Bush responded as I'm sure he wanted to, he'd look like a complete ass (tough for him to do, huh?) and entirely predictable. So he's issued a positive ad. Let's see how long that tactic lasts.

On another note, I watched my convention coverage on NBC because it's the only channel I get. At one point, they talked to a bunch of Repugs who were collecting ammo for Bush - they came right out and said things like, "can you get that for the attack page?". You gotta love these guys, fair players all around.

What are they turning the corner from? There's so much to choose from.

Thousands dead based on a lie
Cheney/Halliburton connection
$450 billion dollar deficit
Torture and Rape
Using the Consitution for political purposes

On a brighter note, welcome to DU. :hi:
