Zell Miller WSJ Op-ed: "See Y'All in New York"
So now Zell is writing anti-Dem trash for the Wall Street Journal editorial page???

Why I skipped the Boston convention.

Twelve years ago, I delivered one of the keynote addresses on the first night at the Democratic National Convention in New York. It was a stinging rebuke of the administration of George H.W. Bush and a ringing endorsement of Bill Clinton. This summer I'll again be speaking in New York, but it will be to the Republican Convention that renominates George W. Bush.

Many have asked how I could have come so far in just over a decade. Frankly, I don't think I've changed much at all. At 72, I don't feel much need to change my opinions. Instead, the reason I didn't attend the Democratic Convention in Boston is that I barely recognize my party anymore. Most of its leaders--including our nominee, John Kerry--don't hold the same beliefs that have motivated my career in public service.

-snip-

Today, it's the Democratic Party that has mastered the art of division and diversion. To run for president as a Democrat these days you have to go from interest group to interest group, cap in hand, asking for the support of liberal kingmakers. Mr. Kerry is no different. After Hollywood elites profaned the president, he didn't have the courage to put them in their place. Instead, he validated their remarks, claiming that they represent "the heart and soul of America."

-snip-

Worst of all, Sens. Kerry and Edwards have not kept faith with the men and women who are fighting the war on terror--most of whom come from small towns and middle-class families all over America. While Mr. Bush has stood by our troops every step of the way, Messrs. Kerry and Edwards voted to send our troops to war and then voted against the money to give them supplies and equipment--not to mention better benefits for their families. And recently Mr. Kerry even said he's proud of that vote. Proud to abandon our troops when they're out in the field? I can hear Harry Truman cussing from his grave.

He's a GOP celebrity now. There's nothing they love more than a turncoat Democrat.

5. I'm thinking Zell
was part of the 'old time' Democrats who were for segregation and intolerance who left the party in droves after LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act. If so, I'm GLAD the party now isn't the one he remembers-it is 100% better!

9. No--it's something else. He's spoken very well of Kerry in the past
Someone can probably dredge up the quote for you. But since Kerry is scarcely different from Gore or Clinton as far as policy, his behavior is not easily explained.

24. It's fairly easy to explain ol' Zell's behavior...
it's sour grapes. For 24 years, as Lieutenant Governor and then as Governor of Georgia, he was accustomed to being kowtowed to by one and all, fawned over, listened to, quoted, given precedence, courted, practically worshipped...this is the solemn truth. After he was apponted to the Senate, he became the junior senator from Georgia, one of 100, lowest in seniority in the Senate, ignored, passed over, and snubbed. In rage and bitterness, he turned against his own party. His current foaming and rampages are nothing more than so many temper tantrums: anything to get attention (and make a little more money from sales of a pathetic "book" he allegedly authored). No Democrat should ever again speak his name. It would please me greatly if my fellow DU'ers would stop posting about this sad, deflated old gasbag. He's not going to change any true Democrat's mind about voting for *. :puke:

38. And Don't Forget. And I'm sorry if it pisses off anyone from GA
But he is in a state where David Duke, or Jerry Falwell could be elected to the Senate with 60% of the vote. That is not a slam on the "good" people of GA, but it is a fact.

The country would be a hell of a lot better off is GA, MS and AL would just "effing" secede.

10. What's the point? He's a lame duck.
He isn't running for re-election. Just let him run his batteries out. If he was kicked out, the Republicans would use it as an example of Democratic "intolerance".

12. Zell is full of shit
the Democratic party has moved to the center under Clinton--and Kerry is also playing to the center. Just where does he want the party to go? to the hard right? Cm'on Zell, your hero, W, isn't even a conservative. Would a conservative turn the biggest surplus (thanks to the democratic party) into the biggest deficits? What W (and Zell) is, is a radical. It will be a happy day in January 2005 when Zell Miller leaves the US Senate and Bush exits the white house.

Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 11:00 AM by RatTerrier
Don't flame me, just hear me out.

What if our beloved Zell is really a DNC mole?

What if he gets up on stage at MSG (he was given a high-priority slot) and starts bashing the GOP?

Nahhhhh, too much to wish for. But what if?

14. I'm tempted to say, "You bet your ass, Zell"
You'd better believe you're going to see a lot of people who formerly supported you in New York, but on second thought, I reckon the Republicans will set up First Amendment Zones in, say, Sheboygan, so you probably won't see anyone disagreeing with the odious Republicans.

But you're sure as the world going to hear from us on November 2. I recommend a high quality set of ear plugs, Mr. Miller. Your health care plan will probably cover it.

Let him have his fifteen minutes in New York.

It's funny the GOP calls JFK a flip-flopper but they welcome the guy who did the Democrat Convention keynote speech in 2002. Can you say hypocracy.

25. Here's some great AMMO on ZIg Zag Zell
http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=134-03242004

WASHINGTON, March 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- John Kerry Communications Director Stephanie Cutter today made the following statement in response to Senator Zell Miller's announcement of his leadership of "Democrats for Bush."

"Just two years ago, Zell Miller sang John Kerry's praises in his home state of Georgia. Miller pointed out some of very same the traits that have inspired millions of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans to rally behind John Kerry's campaign to get America back on track and bring back jobs.

"As Senator Miller himself said, John Kerry is an 'authentic hero.' He has fought for his country on the battlefield and in the public arena. He has been a champion of balanced budgets, a leader in education reform, and powerful advocate for affordable health care and an economy that works for working Americans.

"Zell Miller's new leadership role will be a lonely post. Democrats, and Americans of all stripes, are tired of George Bush's failed policies and broken promises. The nearly 3 million Americans who have lost their jobs since George Bush took office are members of both parties. The millions of families who are struggling to pay for the rising costs of health insurance and the seniors who can't afford needed prescription drugs are both Democrats and Republicans. And the families of U.S. troops who were sent to Iraq without body armor to protect them are members of both parties.

"This November, millions of Americans of every political persuasion will unite in a powerful call for change, and they'll stand with 'an authentic American hero' -- John Kerry."
