6. Cleland. But Clark speaks also and both of Kerry's daughters.
I think some of his swift boat mates also speak.

8. Cleland and Kerry
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 12:58 PM by kwolf68
I don't care what ANYONE thinks of their politics, but the treatment of both of these men's careers in the military has been one of the most disgraceful things I have ever witnessed from a group of people who say they "support and love our troops."

Kerry volunteered to serve at a time when people of affluence were bugging out like war was the plague (which it is) or people of lesser means doing drastic things (see Ted Nugent) to avoid service. Kerry, a man of privilege, went. He said, "Send Me."

Meanwhile, Senator Max Cleland also went to Vietnam and left half is body over there. Max Cleland lost nearly everything and was lucky to keep his life.

You can hate their politics and disagree with them all you want Republicans...You can even say you don't want them elected and soundly defeated at the polls. That is Democracy and I am fine with that.

Where the truly sinister agenda of the Republican Party is displayed is HOW they treat the service of men like Kerry and Cleland (and Clark) who did serve with honor and with distinction and giving more for this nation than nearly everyone in the US Senate COMBINED (w/ all due respect to McCain and a few others). These men are treated like vermin, like traitors, evil and anti-American all because they have decided (one man from Georgia and one from Massachusetts) to voice a different vision. A vision that does not project Conservatism.

For this one fact alone, "our troops" are nothing more than political tools. Just as "freedom", "God" and "the flag" are prostituted to give access to Republican Power, so too are military personnel prostituted. And you see it live and in color when certain military people are treated with venomous disdain only because they are exercising their 1st amendment rights to speak out on issues and to promote Democracy by being active in Democratic politics.

The Republicans are a shameful lot...if for no other reason than this one.

11. Absolutely right
And it's maddening that at the same time they spread slander and venom like that, they cut funding for veterans as well as combat troops! How the hell can they say they support the military when they treat people who put their lives on the line for their country like poor relations? It's shameful.

I've had ancestors who fought in almost every American war, from the French and Indian Wars on down. You DO NOT treat the military like that. Period.
