Or did Cheney? Just thinking about this this evening. I mean, for a guy who squeaked into office, could he have picked a more sour, dour bunch of ideologues? Ashcroft? Rumsfeld? Wolfowitz?

Powell did not fit this mold, but was marginalized. Now he toes the party line and is worthless.

Thoughts?

11. ...and after he picked himself,
he picked the cabinet--all old holdovers from Nixon and Ford. I wonder if the Rs are ever going to do the soul searching needed to save that party. Dems are doing it now and we realize we need to return to basics.

3. I have many friends in the military and they said in 2000
that most of them voted for shrubby because they knew powell would be in the cabinet.

They now wish they had their vote back

4. Powell was part of that exact same Iran-Contra crowd
and he fit the mold perfectly. The cultivated myth is Powell isn't like the rest...the fact is, Powell is every bit like the rest of them.

and I'm sure Poppy picked his cabinet.

6. the parties have pre-fab cabinets ready for white house remodellings
of course all you see is old blood in high positions. it is not as if kerry/edwards is bringing a lot of young blood into their campaign and won't to their cabinet. whoever worked for clinton is who they will have. never ending string of the same people over and over again behind the scenes.

as far as who picked them, i would guess that the post was right on when they said cheney picked himself, as i would assume most others did as well.

I grew up about an hour from you in nearby Charleston! :hi: Welcome to DU!

It's been reported that Cheney did, in fact, pick himself.

9. Nah, Kerry doesn't owe that much to the Clintons...
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 06:17 AM by thebigidea
There's a much different dynamic at work with Kerry & Clinton than Bush I & II.

I take it you're not much of a fan of Mr. Bill?

10. I suspect Cheney chose most of them.
He worked with all of them in the past, and probably told shrub that this would make his best team.

12. Who runs this country has been one of the biggest mysteries of...
the last four years. And I think the mystery goes back to Reagan.

One thing seems certain: At some point Capital organized and decided to run their own candidate rather than appeal for help from existing Republican candidates.

But who they are, who leads and the mechanisms of leadership remain a mystery.

13. I don't think *'s done any of the work
he didn't pick his cabinet, doesn't read anything, doesn't pay attention at the few meetings he attends. The only things he does are read off the teleprompter and attend official functions, at which "success" is if he sits up straight in his chair.

....much less his cabinet or anything else.
