Opportunity for Air America in Denver (KNRC off the air).
Hi,

Here's a great opportunity for Air America in Denver.

Talk radio KNRC ends two-year run

The station aired a wide range of political opinion. Facing formidable local competition, it struggled to gain recognition.

Talk radio KNRC 1150-AM in Denver, whose offices are shown above, went off the air Tuesday morning. Tim Brown, CEO of the station’s owner, NRC Broadcasting Inc., said the station is for sale and will start music broadcasts Friday.

Denver-based talk radio station KNRC 1150-AM went silent Tuesday morning, ending a format that voiced opinions across the political spectrum but struggled to find an audience against established competitors.

"All in all, I'm still fiercely proud of the product we put out and am sorry we didn't make it," said Tim Brown, CEO of Denver-based NRC Broadcasting Inc., the station's owner. "It has been the hardest day in my life."

----

I used to listen to this station more until they stop broadcasting Liberal talk show hosts. I liked Enid Goldstein and the other liberal ones, but when they started hiring conservative talker in the mornings and afternoons I stopped listening.

This could be a opportunity for AAR in Denver, if they advertise and market it right.

I can see Enid in the mornings in Denver with the rest of the AAR lineups in all days.

Check out this paragraph:

February 2002: NRC Broadcasting - the name stands for "Newspaper Radio Corporation" - is incorporated. Its principal owner is Denver financier Philip Anschutz, and its three founders include an Anschutz son-in-law, Tim Brown.

3. Keeping an eye on Dallas
We have an AM right-wing talk-radio glut over here (KLIF, KSKY, WBAP, and Mainstreet 990). It's so prevalent that it even took over one of the oldest Christian radio stations in the Southwest. I'm just waiting for the ratings for one of these to drop so that maybe - oh God, please! - maybe we can replace Michael Savage with Al Franken and Laura Ingraham with Randi Rhodes. This would bring me joy, even though I can catch AAR on the Internet...

4. It's got a strong signal.
The problem is the formatting of both con annd liberal shows. It's like playing country for 3 hours, then switching to rap for another 3. It just doesn't have a permanent audience. Placing the CONS in drivetime was also a bad move for them.

AAR on 1150 would be a nice counterpoint to all the CON stations in liberal Denver (especially 630 KHOW...I'm getting sick of Redmon/Newman-especially NEWMAN!:puke: ).

6. How did left-wing radio fare in Denver after Alan Berg?
I've been re-reading The Silent Brotherhood, which details in part Alan Berg's career on KOA and how he was machine-gunned by a member of "The Order." I know Ken Hamblin mourned Berg on the air, but how has Denver left-wing talk-radio fared since then? Just curious.

7. I don't really know.
I only moved to Denver 7 years ago. Berg died in the 80s I believe. I was usually a CD/Rock FM listener most of the time, and just got into AM talk about a year ago.

I hear the Peter Boyles was his co-host. Boyles is still on AM 630, but he's a bit to the right of center, but not by much.

Maybe a long time Denverite can help out more.

5. That's what happened with KPOJ 620 in Portland.

They were talk, but then they went to oldies music.
And when AAR came around, they came on board with
the programming.

Lots of people here in town lobbied station management
with emails and phone calls and it worked.

Denverites, get busy!!!
