Any Humanists out there?
Haven't seen any in a long time, I'm beginning to wonder if there are any out there. There certaintly aren't any where I live, just got back from an AP Euro class, and we were going over the Renaissance, and no one knew what Humanism was. A few "knew" that Secular Humanists were pagans, but other than that they were pretty damn ignorant.

I'm a Secular(pagan) Humanist, if that's possible(if you're a S-H, I think you'll understand that). Anyone else a Humanist, any form?

1. I hate labels
Explain what you're talking about (i.e., define "Humanist") and you might get some responses.

11. many definitions,
I can only tell you that it is not a religion, and does not have dogma. Everything else is pretty much in the eye...

4. Well...
Does a quasi-Pagan/Buddhist/Universalist/Christian/Wiccan/Humanist count?

I really hate trying to confine myself to any particular cubbyhole, ya know. :D

15. You know, I've considered it, and I think I agree with you.
I thought like you did, then I decided to give in and start calling myself a Secular Humanist, because Ultimately I fit all the ideas, but now I'm ashamed of the title. But there's something to be said about being about to wave around the title, and offend people with a two word phrase.

But there is something unsavory about joining an organization, that is along the same lines of a religion, or rather a response to religion.

10. Yes, I agree.
I didn't like Humanism for the longest time, infact I think I had something against them, but Humanist really isn't a label per se.

7. Card carrying Secular Humanist right here.
There are more of us that you can imagine.

Not a "Pagan" in the sense that I'm familiar with. Just your run of the mill Existentialist/Atheist.

8. Most people are humanists now...
and it's so popular that it's the standard, and nobody even notices any more.

That's what has the fundies in all religions so upset.

9. They have all converted to Satanism

true 'church of satan' style.

Humanists who believe in the basic need for dogma and ritual for ones spiritual developemnt, much like Jung theorized with individualization.

13. Non-secular Humanist here.
As far as overall life philosophy goes, I'd say that's what fits me. Ah hell, I may very well be Pagan or summat. Damned if I can figure it out, except I know I'm not Christian, or at least not among the accepted/ing kinds. My main philosphy that qualifies as Humanist is just that I want to see equality among all human beings. That and I want to see aqll humanity living up ot our truest potential, the best in humanity coming forth more often than the worst in us.

17. But, of course.
Secular humanist, and damn proud of it. I also identify with Enlightenment thinkers. And I get all squishy inside and tear up when someone speaks with affection about John Stewart Mill, though I also have a soft spot for the Norman Thomas' of the world.
