I hope Team Kerry doesn't make the same stupid mistake Team Gore did.
When Lorreta Sanchez (D-Calif) spoke at the Playboy Mansion fundraiser to raise funds for Al Gore, the Right Wing was all over it. Gore freaked out, called Playboy Magazine garbage and gave the money back. It showed cowardice and nothing makes the Right Wing happier than when the Democrats behave like cowards. It shows that they can always keep the Democrats running scared and betraying their own base.

I'm seeing signs of this again, from Margaret Cho being uninvited at a convention event, rumors of the Democrats treating Michael Moore like he's radioactive, even though if Kerry wins, he can give at least some of the credit to Moore.

What gives here? Who the hell is advising Kerry?

1. Margaret Cho would be like Whoopi, and swing voters don't like that

6. Right, but do the Repubs "disinvite" Ann Coulter from their convention?

8. The difference is the media won't say a discouraging word about
that vicious harpy being at the Rethug convention.

10. I agree. I also, want to win, first and foremost. But there has to be
some limit at which the faux "outrage" of the CONSERVATIVE media can no longer dictate who we "allow" to publicly support us. I do agree right now that it just looks like the Democratic Party has no balls whatsoever, and it makes me discouraged, almost to the point that if it wasn't an evil loser like shrubya in office that I'd be discouraged from voting.

I agree that MM should be able to attend, if he wants to. He has done more for the cause than almost any individual with his books and film. I also agree we should wait until we hear more.

2. I think it was perfectly resonable to do that...
How many women do you think it would offend if that was held at the Playboy er Orgy Mansion? Here's a nice little piece from Salon about it...

3. Satisfying the egos of our celebrity activists shouldn't be a priority
Everyone on our side should recognize that full effort needs to be made to presenting Kerry in a favorable light to voters that haven't yet been paying attention.

5. Amen
We're trying to win here, not satisfy every faction of our party....

4. Agree with this post
More energy needs to be put forth toward being firm and not "running scared."

Does Bush admit to being ashamed of anything? No, and this is supposedly one of his draws.

11. "Running scared" is WORSE
My argument is that whatever damage these actions may have, the perception that dems shift their positions based on repub pressure is worse.

12.  I e-mailed Kerry about this.
Told him I would like him to state graciously that he appreciates the support of individuals like Ronstadt, Goldberg, Moore, and Cho. That he could state that we were an inclusive party that did not insist on everyone agreeing on everything.

13. It means that they're still too scared to take the fight to Bush
And until they finally decide to do that, defeat after defeat awaits us. :(

15. Kerry is just being extraordinarily careful because one false step and
FAUX news and the neocon media turn a little pebble into Mount Everest. That nonsense over Whoopi--and the Repubs demanding--DEMANDING--the tape of her appearance! The neocons can make an issue over absolutely nothing, while they can lie about destroying a country and no one bats an eye.
