Dems asked for WH subpoena on Cheney/Halliburton
At todays hearing...
...
"Halliburton is gouging the taxpayer," charged Representative Henry A. Waxman of California, the senior Democrat on the committee, while the committee chairman, Tom Davis, Republican of Virginia, accused the Democrats of mounting a "witch hunt" intended to embarrass Vice President Dick Cheney before the elections. Mr. Cheney headed the Houston-based oil services and construction company in the 1990's.
...
With Democrats continuing to raise questions about Mr. Cheney's past involvement with Halliburton, party members on the committee also proposed issuing a subpoena to the White House, seeking records of contacts between the vice president's office and the Pentagon. The proposal was defeated as members voted strictly on party lines.

If it's such a partisan accusation, why did the *bi-partisan* GAO, in their report, blame "the Pentagon and Halliburton for poor management practices"? And why are 3 ex-employees telling tales wanton excess? And why is H now denying that they overcharged for meals when they already gave the money back?

1. The Repubs are fucked on this issue
There is so much stuff oozing out of this situation they can't even begin to contain it. This isn't going to go away, and I think Cheney is going to be a little more than "embarassed" by the time it is all said and done. Hopefully indicted and convicted:)

2. Bring this up every day
Gee, there certainly seem to be a lot of questions surrounding Halliburton and its dealings with the government. And they're not very forthcoming with their records. The Republicans apparently don't want to see those records. They don't think that the people are entitled to know how their money is being spent, and whether or not it's being wasted.

What's the matter, Grand Old Party? Are your loyalties toward corporations or the people? Why don't you want those records? Why won't you issue a subpoena?
