Prisoner TORTURE NEWSDUMP during 9/11 Report release!
Gee, what a shock that they'd do this the same day as the 9/11 report being released.

"Hastily called" hearing. Media snoozes. Story killed?

"U.S. Reports 94 Cases of Prisoner Abuse

WASHINGTON - The U.S. military has found 94 cases of confirmed or alleged abuse of prisoners by U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan since the fall of 2001, the Army's inspector general said Thursday in a long-awaited report made public at a hastily called Senate hearing."

"The number is significantly higher than all other previous estimates given by the Pentagon ...."

4. According to the ABC report
Sen. John Warner, the Republican chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who had been pressing for the results of the inspector general report for several weeks, called the last-minute hearing Thursday before Congress leaves for the rest of the summer Friday.

The Army has not yet made the entire report public but released parts during the public hearing.

5. A Few Bad Apples...
"In contrast to its own findings that there were no systemic problems, however, the Army report also cites a February report from the International Committee for the Red Cross that alleged that "methods of ill treatment" were "used in a systematic way" by the U.S. military in Iraq."

And what's going on with Sy Hersh and the evidence of abuse of kids?

7. I guess congress will find time after the election...
Remember that they needed a WEEK to talk about gay marriage.

But raped children? Nah, Congress will tackle that minor issue after their long summer break.

15. Ramirez is such a craphound...

Half of his cartoons are just point blank ad-hominem attacks on people he doesn't like... The one prior to the Iraq War, for example, where the whole "point" of the cartoon was that "Anti-War Protesters are unshaven and dirty, and some of them (horrors!) listen to the grateful dead"

Asshat.

16. LA Times article today ACTUALLY said this: TOTAL White House talking pts.
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 11:40 AM by jackstraw45
Is this the biggest piece of CRAP you've ever read?

"With senators due to leave today for summer recess and the Sept. 11 commission report dominating the capital's attention, Warner decided Wednesday evening to convene the hearing - elevating the attention given a report that might otherwise have been eclipsed by other news."

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-prison23jul23,1,2909185.story?coll=la-headlines-world

UHHHHH, it's the EXACT F-ing opposite. This report, which the Senate has had for WEEKS is BURIED today under the 9/11 stories.

What kind of journalist HACK would write this? Oh...one reading talking points from the RNC....
