Berger: Tempest in a Teapot?
NPR had the Director(?) of archives on a few minutes ago. Some info:

"Not unheard of" for researcher to mingle docs w/ personal papers/notes.

Copy machines availabe (in "vault").

Exiting docs/notes to be reviewed by "staffer".

(At the end of the interview the director and NPR host-maybe Gordon-were laughing about the REAL issue being free copiers,i.e.,taxpayer- funded)

It seems that Berger did not take any "sole copy/source" docs (this is not from NPR).

Is this much ado about nothing?

1. It's a Democrat facing 'charges',
so the media is snarling, trying to chase down anybody who isn't a Repuke. It's just so disgusting that Repukes who have broken the law (Cheney, Bush*, Rumsfeld, Rove) are given a free pass by the media - yet let there be a HINT of something wrong with a Democrat's actions and the media whores suddenly turn into lions trying to take down a gazelle.

... and it looks like it might be backfiring on their asses. Looks like the Justice department is being used to smear Berger - brings up questions about the Plame investigation no?

Fox has moved this off the lead story on their website and Drudge is fronting Michael having quads now .....

I actually think these things help Kerry. When the media overreacts to a story (like the Drudge initiated intern debaucle) and every RWinger jumps on the bandwagon .... In the end, it makes it so obvious that all they are interested in is smearing Kerry and diverting attention from Bush's failings. Now it would be nice if the media would wake up to this sh** instead of having to apologize (sort of) for it later.

4. It looks like I'm a few steps behind my fellow Duers
after taking a long, two-glasses-of-chardonnay-lunch w/ friends. LOL.

5. Did he "stuff" the docs
in his pants and socks? That's the meme I've heard here at work.

And how would anyone know that?

8. The socks bit has the same ring as the missing Ws from
computer keyboards when the Clinton staffers "trashed the Whitehouse". :eyes: Sounds like Rovian theatrics to me.

6. It will backfire of the GOP
The fact that Berger has been up front about what he did, and is cooperating with the investigation will make the administration stonewallers look worse by comparison.

7. Blitzer
Berger can always pull a Wolf Blitzer, "Haven't you ever made a mistake?"

9. From the CNN report and similar to what I read in USA Today:
The investigation has been under way since October, and its disclosure the week before the Democratic National Convention in Boston -- and just days before the 9/11 commission is due to release its report -- led sources close to Berger to question whether the news was leaked for political reasons.

<snip>

Seriously. How can it not be a smear campaign. Not a peep about this in October and if he had been stuffing things in his socks, it certainly would've leaked out then by someone.

So he took off his shoes and socks to stuff documents in them while two archive workers watched? Riiigghhtt.

12. It's not about whether it's much ado about nothing
The media will follow the lead (while alot of the public is almost unaware of investigations of the administration). If Dems want to win this election, they will have to get down and dirty like the evil ones. Someone needs to also shut up as much as possible the imperialist dems as they play the national security and "war on terrorism" game with the evil ones. Otherwise, this election is officially over. We will be officially a one party state with media propaganda and closed secretive government that is above the law indefinitely. Sorry, but I've had enough. I can't keep on caring like this if the Dems roll over as well as shoot themselves in the foot. I'll just take care of my family the best I can if the party blows this election and look for the best options for my kids.
