Newsmax-Katie Couric: Did We Attack the Wrong Country?
No link to the video from the Today Show this morning (you HAVE to see Woolsey squirm) or a transcript but our friends at Newsmax offer this:

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/7/19/122902.shtml

In the wake of the news that the upcoming 9/11 Commission report includes evidence that several of the 9/11 hijackers may have been given safe passage through Iran, NBC "Today Show" host Katie Couric wondered aloud Monday morning whether President Bush hadn't "attacked the wrong country."

Couric's guest, former CIA Director James Woolsey, urged her to take a look at the recently released Senate Intelligence Committee report on Iraq, which he noted "has far more details about the Iraqi-Al Qaida connections, particularly in Chapter 12."

For those who may find wading through Chapter 12 too tedious, we recommend the far more pithy "Conclusions" section. Here's a few of the Intelligence Committee's findings that Couric and her media brethren apparently missed:

(See Newsmax's highlighted points)
Oh and these tried and well tried arguments of a link

Though not specified in the report's Conclusion section:

-First WTC attacker Yasin given safehaven by Iraq
-Abu Nibal (okay that may be true)
-Al-Zarqawi's medical treatment in Baghdad

4. Did you Woolsey's reaction to the question? Correcting Couric
not "invasion" but "freeing" or Iraq!!!! LOL! Actually, after thinking about it, it is pretty sad to have all these sacks of poopoo spewing such idiocy...and the public taking it as the truth.

9. "We attacked the wrong country" is another way of saying
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 01:17 PM by Minstrel Boy
"Let's attack another country."

Osama is America's chimerical McGuffin, which it chases, with a wink, through Central Asia, leaving puppet client states in its wake to bury tens of thousands of their dead.

Ain't gonna happen. Woolsey said just about the same things on CNN this morning. This is a man covering his ass. He's out there protecting his CIA 'brothers' regardless of truth. Shameful performance.

14. Katie's not the brightest of bulbs, but
that can be good, because she says out loud what a lot of people think.

What concerns me is why ANY news organization would give Woolsley any credibility.

15. The Bush guys cannot figure out they got set up...like in a big chess game
only thing its geo politics...on the world stage...

The Bush guys think they are so smart....

If we are that smart, How come we are searching every piece of cargo/luggage at our ports? at a humongous expense....How come we are going from yellow to orange alerts like an elevator, up down up down...? How come we are dying like rats in a fucking desert of a Nation? 10000 wounded/PTS/bodybags? How come we have our jobs going overseas? How come the Bushys cannot figure out Plausible answers?

Its because the Bushies have no REAL answers that work..... for Americans that is.... only for the 1% rich. We are such dolts we elect them....

16. The answers (and the re-answers) are meant to divert attention
not to actually answer the questions or state their actual position on an issue.

They know that they couldn't have just come out and said "Look we want the oil, water, and to establish a US military presence in the middle east" and they still can't. They expected the ends to justify the means (and then tell everyone to shut the hell up) but it didn't and everyone tried to tell the American people (save for the press) that it never would work.

Woolsey is never going to admit what they really wanted and if people ever found out that this was in the works (a fact supported by Clarke AND O'Neill) for years they would be shocked, but they only find out about that from their crazy liberal friends like us who send them e-mails or bring it up in discussions.

19. Its obvious they reject us Libs as ABSURD...auto file 13...Dismiss...
Not realizing the possibility they got set up...

and if the possibility exists, as it realistically...does...

then sooner or Later Mrs Murphy shows up...and nobody wants a visit from .................Mrs Murphy...theres all of Hell to pay...

but the point begs...these Fools who refuse to see our side of the arguement...100 % of the time...go blindly on into the Land of Far Far Away....with these Counter-Productive/Wasteful Efforts... in a greedy fashion...only to be met in your Face Mrs History, repeating herself..."If I told you once. I told you a Thousand Times!!!"

Damn......

18. PNAC Woolsey advocates fighting long term World War IV:
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 02:25 PM by Zorra
I bet Woolsey and the PNAC would just love to invade Iran. He really wanted the US to invade Iraq. And he was way wrong about Iraq.

America's New War: Should Iraq be Next?
By R. James Woolsey
snip
For his part, Saddam only needs time to add nuclear and longer-range missile capabilities to his current arsenal of chemical and bacteriological weapons, and short-range missiles. He will then be able to deter coalitions from forming against him, to dominate his corner of the world, and to make it far less likely that we will be able to interrupt his rule and his dynasty. Terrorist attacks on us serve these ends if they help keep us away from him.
snip
The case for removing Saddam only becomes stronger with the passage of time. First, there is no reasonable debate about the proposition that he has chemical and bacteriological weapons and short-range ballistic missiles. In the May issue of Vanity Fair, for example, writer David Rose debriefs an Iraqi defector who chronicles the locations of their production in Iraq -- including the use of mobile laboratories for making bacteriological agents. Rose also revealed Iraqi work on ballistic missiles of increasingly longer range that will soon be capable of reaching Europe. The Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control, a nonprofit organization, has published details about the four tons of VX nerve gas and the several hundred tons of other chemical agents Iraq possesses. In addition to hiding many tons of growth media for biological agents and pursuing its work on smallpox and anthrax, Iraq is the only nation in the world to have weaponized aflatoxin, whose primary purpose is to cause liver cancer in children.
snip
For democracies, war is ordinarily their last choice. It is dictatorships that start wars, often because their rulers need enemies to stay in power. Many would say of the Arabs that it is foolhardy to try to bring democracy to their corner of the world, and indeed there are some cultural barriers (not least of which are the views of the Wahhabis and those Muslims who see the world through similar eyes). But the substantial majority of the people of the Middle East are not any less suited to democracy than it was once thought the Germans and Japanese would be, and they cannot be that different in their ability to govern themselves decently than their co-religionists in, say, Mali and Bangladesh. We need to remember what Wilson and FDR taught us. In the long run, for all of us, peace and political freedom are inseparable.
snip
But Iraq is just the next battle in a war that will take a number of years, quite possibly decades. Given the three major movements in the Middle East which are, in essence, at war with us, we will not have peace until we defeat them and win this fourth world war. To win it, we must decide that we are fighting it in no small part to bring freedom and democracy to those whom we want to have as friends and allies: the people of the Arab and Muslim worlds

"For democracies, war is ordinarily their last choice. It is dictatorships that start wars, often because their rulers need enemies to stay in power"

Yeah, I guess the above quote perfectly outlines one reason Bu$h invaded Iraq.
