Does (did) the NAACP invite Bu*h to speak to them?
On CNN Blitzer is questioning Jeff Greenfield about Kerry's comments to the NAACP about Bu*h not speaking at their meeting. Greenfield comments that what will be interesting to see is whether Kerry reaches out and goes to address a group such as evangelical conservatives, i.e. someone on the opposite end of his political spectrum.

Well my question goes to this, if they don't invite Kerry to speak and the NAACP does ask Bu*h to talk, then isn't he talking about apples and oranges?

ALSO... changing topics: Wolf Blitzer says that Hillary Clinton is "irked" that she has not been asked to be a keynote speaker at the NDC and has been making waves about it. Greenfield responds by saying something to the effect that it doesn't make a "Hillary of beans" whether she speaks or not. Too cute Mr. Greenteeth!

ARGGHHH.... these RW MEDIA WHORES are about to drive me to drink... (or worse)! :grr:  :grr:

1. It's tradition for the pres to speak to the NAACP
They are a civil rights group although some, even here at DU, make them out to be partisans.

As he did with Helen Thomas, Bush shows disrespect for tradition and inability to face any person or group of people who are not unquestioningly fawning to him.

IOW, his is a thin-skinned punk.

3. Just the same...
It is NOT "traditional" for a presidential candidate to pick out someone who represents the polar opposite of his philosophical base and thrust himself upon them unsolicited, I would think.

The point is that the argument Greenfield made is just completely bogus. I would bet you a dollar to a donut that if an evangelical conservative group should ask Kerry to come speak he would do it.

This little tête-à-tête that Wolf and Jeff had was just an exercise in transparent political bias and the premise was utterly flawed. This MEDIA needs a big come-up-ins... I hope it comes Nov. 2.

2. NAACP invited him to speak every year
He spoke in 2000 as a candidate. He has not spoken as president. He has been invited to the convention each year and has said no each year. He's the first president since Hoover to not speak at the NAACP convention.

They also invited Kerry to speak this year and he said yes. :)

7. The planet of reading comprehension

The planet where if I don't get the post the first time, I look again to see what I might have missed.

"Greenfield comments that what will be interesting to see is whether Kerry reaches out and goes to address a group such as evangelical conservatives, i.e. someone on the opposite end of his political spectrum." "Well my question goes to this, if they don't invite Kerry to speak..."

I was talking about Kerry, not Bush. Trying to answer the question.

Next time I'll try to be more clear.
