the rebublicans will try to leverage a woman president before the democrats do. It won't be a good woman however, but a fundementalist freak imo. However they will try to leverage womans values with her anyway.

One of those religiously insane "Ladies Against Women" types. Before AirAmerica came on the air I used to listen to Concerned Women for America's radio show on the local fundie station to keep up with what they were up to. Those women are SCARY.

Although the one whose job it is to look at porn all day so poor, innocent kids don't have to is rather amusing to me. :)

..such as Carol Moseley Braun...Only in the heat of the fire of a national primary can we know the extent of her popularity. Just my opinion.

19. That's More Than A Mere Opinion... That's EXACTLY How It Is :-)

You hit the nail squarely on the head.

A female candidate must survive the primaries to WIN the nomination... she won't just be proffered out of the blue by the party simply because someone feels that they *might* have a winner.

Having a woman at the top of the ticket won't happen simply to score political points at being the *first*... it will be because she's proven herself to be a popular candidate with a message that resonates with the voters.

I'm hoping that it's the Democratic party.

The Dems have already put a woman on the ticket...and then let her go down in flames. I think that has probably provided the excuse for not having a woman so far..."we tried that already, didn't work, the country's just not ready...blah, blah, blah."

There is no excuse. Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto, these are women who have headed countries even more macho than the USA.

as they did (nothing) with Gore, the Dems hardly put up a fuss. And I always had the sneaking suspicion that they knew they were going to lose so they put Ferraro on the ticket to say they had done it and to provide insurance against having to do it again any time soon.

Still, if it's a choice between the big two, I hate to say it, but I think we'll get an Elizabeth Dole-type on the GOP ticket before the Dems put up a woman.

23. It depends on what happens in 2004

I won't even mention the worst possible outcome in 2004, as it is worse than speaking of the dead. But if Bush is still around until 2008, I am fairly confident that things will have deteriorated to the extent that Hillary Clinton will emerge as a major figure of popularity, even among many of her former detractors. Issues of health care and education will be paramount, if we continue spending our treasury on foreign wars.
