Need help with the Swift Boat vets (Kerry haters)
So, apparently I bit off too much, and can't remember the name of the site that documents how much was donated to campaigns. I need to find out how much these guys gave to Bush*'s campaign...

Also, there was an article that quite a few of these guys resented being put into this "Yeah! me too club" without their permission. Anybody remember that? I know the original article about SBVFT came from that oh' so unpartisan CBN site, but this one came from another. I also know about Joe Conason's expose on John O'Neal, the Repug operative.

Also, who's the Repub lady who's financing these guys?

Anybody know of a list of VN Vets FOR Kerry that outnumber this one?:D

3. Smear Boat Veterans
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 12:19 PM by wicket
Joe Conason did a great article on them called "Smear Boat Veterans for Bush" - http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2004/05/04/swift/index_np.html

edit: Here is another article he did on the same subject - http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2004/05/14/gannon/

He exposes all of their right-wing ties and such.

This has got some good info too - http://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Swift_Boat_Veterans_for_Truth

Merrie Spaeth is the Repub lady I believe you are referring too.

Also, let it be stressed that these guys did not actually serve WITH Kerry, but on the same kind of boats he did. I think only 1 of these guys actually knew Kerry, and the rest of his fellow crewmates are NOT part of this crew. Many of them have campaigned with him in fact.

9. If they are Swift Boat vets for Kerry
its ok though? (that didn't come out right, but what the hey)

That's something that's always bothered me, it seems hypocritical to question these guys, while at the same time elevating the ones who support Kerry, merely because they support Kerry instead of Bush. Couldn't it be said for the ones supporting Kerry that they have left-wing ties? I mean, if it wasn't ok for jeepers-creepers-refreepers to attack Max Cleland, is it ok for Democrats to attack these guys?

I'll just be staying out of the swift-boat-vet-issue-debate, I guess.

Sorry about flame baiting your thread, feeling a little cynical on the whole politician thing today. A little left out in the cold.

10. No, that's not my problem with them
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 01:14 PM by wicket
It's that they are trying to pass themselves off as some independent group critical of Kerry when they didn't even KNOW him. They try to make it sound as if they were his former crewmates or something (who support and campaign with him), but they merely served on the same type of boat in Vietnam.

15. I've been going through a number of them, and...
It's hard to decide who these guys are, especially with common names. Without at least a state listed, which I don't have, who knows what party, or donations these guys made. What if some of these guys actually gave to John Kerry, and really don't agree with this group? And, what to make of those children/spouses who belong "on their behalf"? Isn't that presumptuous of the idealogical "conceerns" of the dead?

There was an article sometime after these guys made their press conference, where some vets whose names were included were angry to be associated with SBVFT, and never gave their permission. I wish I knew where I read that.
