to postpone the elections, he will lose MANY supporters.
I can't see how ANYONE could support an administration that has mucked with the US Constitution as much as his has, but if he tries to delay democracy, which, at this time, appears to be favoring his opponent's election to the presidency, he will lose much of his base.
(I cannot see an election delay, though, because it would take state-constitutional amendments in all states, and that just ain't gonna happen.)
I remember, late in Clinton's second term, the right fomented scare-stories of Clinton creating some crisis that would necessitate an extended term for him. I remember the right's talk about how anti-American, anti-founding-fathers, and anti-constitutional such a "power grab" would be. Wonder how they are reacting to the news that their boy, in reality (not just in some paranoia rumor) is nosing for a way to delay the elections.
If, and it is a HUGE IF, Bush does succeed in doing so, US cities will melt down with rioting and protests.
I guess I am wondering---how is the right responding to proof that the Bush admin is checking into ways to delay the election? Even if I were a conservative (perhaps even MORE SO if I were a conservative who supports American traditions, including timely voting on presidents) I would lose my noggin over this.
