If the Bush Right pushes constitutional amendments (state and fed)...
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 01:34 AM by jchild
to postpone the elections, he will lose MANY supporters.

I can't see how ANYONE could support an administration that has mucked with the US Constitution as much as his has, but if he tries to delay democracy, which, at this time, appears to be favoring his opponent's election to the presidency, he will lose much of his base.

(I cannot see an election delay, though, because it would take state-constitutional amendments in all states, and that just ain't gonna happen.)

I remember, late in Clinton's second term, the right fomented scare-stories of Clinton creating some crisis that would necessitate an extended term for him. I remember the right's talk about how anti-American, anti-founding-fathers, and anti-constitutional such a "power grab" would be. Wonder how they are reacting to the news that their boy, in reality (not just in some paranoia rumor) is nosing for a way to delay the elections.

If, and it is a HUGE IF, Bush does succeed in doing so, US cities will melt down with rioting and protests.

I guess I am wondering---how is the right responding to proof that the Bush admin is checking into ways to delay the election? Even if I were a conservative (perhaps even MORE SO if I were a conservative who supports American traditions, including timely voting on presidents) I would lose my noggin over this.

1. I am wondering how REAL conservatives would respond as well.
My guess : tempting as it may seem, in this case ends don't justify the means

- or -

We had to destroy our democracy in order to save it.

2. He could put us under martial law
This has been discussed in the Plame indictments thread 6 quite extensively. Please read it.

3. And then the Chimp could play at being a dick-tater
I don't see it lasting for very long.... even the Thrid Reich only had a 12 year run - and the Nazis, ( say what you will about their ethos ), were all about stamping out evil.... and grabbing a few goodies while they were at it.

Marshal law woud really be taking the gloves off wouldnt' it?
