It opened last week and is still clearly doing very well. We are not a very racially mixed area, so most of the people I saw were white. But there was a good mix of ages ranging from late teens on up.
Not a lot of sniffling or cries of outrage, but we WASPY Mainers tend to be rather stoic. Quite a bit of laughter at the buffoonery of the Admin, though. And folks were talking as they filed out. "Had you heard that before? I'd heard this, but not that part"
As far as my personal experience went, there were no real surprises in the movie for me, because I've heard most of it and a whole lot more around here the last few years.
BUT, I think that even though Moore could have used footage that would have had an even stronger impact, could have implicated the junta or just outright named them for the crooks that they are, I think he did very well serving up a moving mainstream documentary that the masses would be willing to watch.
I also think it was a very crafty way to whet their appetite for more. I hope folks who see the movie and who have had their eyes opened are online right now trying to learn more about what has been happening in this nation.
And I hope that F9/11, the dvd, comes with a truckload of bonus footage that tells us everything Mike left out in the main feature.
