FMA Senate vote next week (Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment)
Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 08:43 PM by Sliverofhope
Is it true the Federal Marriage Amendment is up for a vote next week? Has cloture been reached?

Edit: Yes, yes it is.

3. got messages from NOW and some other org
I sent to my senators and George Allen has already responded that he will vote for it.. and thinks it is necessary.

I wrote back that our founding fathers would be appalled to have discrimination written into our constitution. And first it is gays, who is next on the list.

And that I was sorry he was the elected representative...

And that god would judge them....

Sick. Writing discrimination into the constituition
(no one to run against them last november...there was no one else to vote for.. no dem on the ticket)

I find it useless to write them, but every once in awhile I still do, and I always get canned answer back that they will do the RW bidding. It is so frustrating.

Virginia seems government wise to be for haters for sure.

4. I hear you
I'm in Texas, and in Tom DeLay's district no less. I figure the only worse place I could be is in Marilyn Musgrave's.

Donate to Stan Matsunaka if you'd like to see her replaced.

7. cloture would be irrelevent in this case
Since this is a Constitutional Amendment it needs 2/3 of the Senate to vote for it (67 people). Cloture only needs 60 votes. Thus there is no need to filibuster this vote.
