As of Saturday, 268 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the military.

The British government has reported 45 deaths.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 130 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest military figures.

The latest casualties reported by the U.S. military:

An American soldier was wounded by shrapnel Saturday when a patrol was ambushed near Baqouba, 45 miles northeast of Baghdad.

1. I still say it's 276 not 268.
However, the 130 number is correct.

2. I think I figured it out.
I went to the DoD website and there are 8 names of military personnel who died or later died after being evacuated from Kuwait. It's part of "Iraqi Freedom" but they are not including them in the total count. That's why AP says 268 and not 276. I think.

3. and its still an abstraction to the US public
Until they air the deaths, the dying, and the horrors...the media whores wont do it.....
Rove wont allow them to, and the public lives in the dark, in denial.
