What's up with DU posters today
Josh Marshall's item about the forged Uranium/Niger papers is beyond huge. This is going to destroy the Bush administration and the story barely raised a ripple on the board today. Why are people ignoring it?

No offence to Michael Moore and F-9/11 but this is the story that will break Bush.

4. agreed-- just keeping our fingers crossed
So many lies, so many exposes...sometimes we get a bit weary of having our hopes raised. I thought the forgery information had circulated before to no effect but could easily be confused.

2. I thought this was old news?
Wasn't the Nigerian uranium story exposed as a fraud long long ago. That's when they turned on Joe Wilson and his wife, if I remember correctly.

12. We're all known about the fraud for a long time
Today was the first hint that it originates somewhere in the administration.

Up to now, the Bush administration has been able to excuse all the false intelligence about Iraq to plausible deniability, i.e. that they were misled, given bad intelligence etc but that they acted in good faith. Now, we know better, that they have never acted in good faith but there has been no concrete way to prove that until now.

If it turns out that people in the administration forged the documents that defence goes out the window and people go to jail.

Before today, there has been no suggestion or hint that the forged documents originated within the administration. This is why the story is so huge.

5. Actually, its a story that could save Bush*
Blame that unpopular secretive Cheney for all the troubles and get another VP running mate, like Guilliani, or whoever and bingo, Smirk is raised from the political dead.\

Don't count these thugs out yet. It's far from over.

11. Even John McCain?
We need to be careful that we don't spend so much time here (I'm talking to myself here) that we start to think everyone else thinks the same way we do.

They don't.

9. Maybe we are a bit more skeptical over here we have heard "huge", many
times before. There is already more than enough "out there" that should have broken Bush. What makes you think this is different. Even the people posting at other sites (where this is getting more attention) are divided on the issue that this is the big one. More than a handful, have the word "Yawn" in their posting.
Why don't you tell us why you think this is the one that will "break Bush".

15. Too much stuff has rolled off
Bush's back so far that it's hard to get excited until we see him being frog-marched out of the white house. Anyone else sitting in the oval office would have to answer some hard questions about some of the stuff we've seen go down.
The media has been complicit in his crimes as far as I'm concerned and now that the Carlyle group has purchased a lot of theaters, I suppose we'll all be treated to re-runs of Cinderella.

16. See my post # 12
A couple of things:

a) Josh Marshall is extremely cautious about speculating about anything. In 2 years of reading him, I've never known him to hype any story like this.

b) Assuming he has absolute proof that the documents were forged there is no way major criminal indictments can be avoided.

All the intelligence failures etc can thus far be explained as just that - bad info acted on in good faith. If this story is true all that goes out the window.

If true, the bottom line is that the Bush administration forged documents to manipulate the country into war. That is treason and is also a slam-dunk impeachable offense, so egregious that not even a GOP led Congress can provide cover for Bush.

It's potentially far more toxic for Bush than even the Plame leaks because there is some wiggle room in that law where the leaker can claim that they assumed Plame's identity was already known.

If it's true Bush is toast - there is no other way to interpret it.

14. we are waiting for the full story
no sense pumping it up when we don't have all the facts, if its done right, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC maybe even FOX will be forced to cover it. It's a big story, it consumed them last summer until the CA recall fiasco.

administration had it's hands in the initial forgery.
