Which "only" made 20M. Ignoring the per theater average and the fact F 9/11 was only on 800+ theaters.

1. "Dodgeball" has probably made $60 million OVERALL.
It has been in release for two or three weeks. "Fahrenheit 9/11" has been in release for less than a week.

Apples and oranges, Mr. Drudge. Apples and oranges.

22. I like Ben Stiller ...

He makes a lot of "thinking mans" movies that are corney and off kilter but VERY intelligent.

3. They have to latch on to any talking
point they can. By that token if "Fahrenheit 9/11" had been in as many theaters as "dodgeball" then it could easily have made as much if not more.

6. Per theatre, adjusted for inflation, F-911 ranks 28th in ALL-TIME openings
Considering the vast number of movies released in the history of filmmaking and its teensy advertising budget, that is no small achievement.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/articles/news/?id=040627bo.htm

"Though Fahrenheit's $25,115 per theater average is extraordinary, it's not unprecedented. It ranks as the seventh highest all time for a wide release (adjusting for ticket price inflation knocks it down to no. 28) and the third best this year behind The Passion of the Christ's $27,554 and Shrek 2's $25,951."

8. Minor difference: F9/11 is a documentary.
The movie's opening weekend is unprecedented for a non-fiction film. And, yes, the $60m gross for Dodgeball is a cumulative number. See here.

Drudge is an asshat.

12. Right and not to mention the socially redeeming qualities of....
...a totally mind numbing, neo-con values endorsing movie like Dodgeball, it should sky-rocket to the top of the earnings making movies of the summer, according to Drudge. For movies like Dodgeball there needs to be another ratings category, TS for Total Shit! Let the fundies and right wingers send their kids to see that movie and further warp their minds.

They should then be ready for the Richard Mellon Scaife remake of that loving family values movie "Triumph des Willens" (1934) from Nazi Germany by Leni Riefenstahl . The English translation of the title is "Triumph of the Will", a documentary about Adolf Hitler, that would come back to haunt her after the atrocities of WWII.

Besides being the poster boy for the religious right as well as their chief financier, he may have been a role model for Vice President Cheney's use of the "F" word in the senate last week. Here is a quote by Scaife:

"You fucking Communist cunt, get out of here ... (and) you had better watch out behind you ..." Richard Mellon Scaife to Karen Rothmeyer

24. Have you never seen a Ben Stiller movie ?????

I'd hardly call him a neo-con. He seems to make think quirky think pieces masked in absurdity.

Given that he keeps working with Janine Garafolo and Andy Dick, I seriously DOUBT that Ben Stiller is a Republican.

in trying to minimize the film's impact? Weekend numbers versus a release that's been out. Please.

20. Show me the money!
And Dodgeball cost how much to make--and how much to promote?

It's been in saturation promo all over the place. They probably spent as much on promotion as on making the film.

(Though I'd almost go see it because of Rip Torn.)

Having a political documentary as the #1 grossing movie (on a summer weekend) is sort of like Karlheinz Stockhausen having a number one Billboard single.

It's pretty cool that your first post mentions both Rip Torn and Stockhausen! Although I'm picturing the guy who throws around scarves and now I realize that's actualy Rip Taylor. Welcome anyway!

26. How will O'Reilly spin this ...????

Probably something like ...

"We'll I'll tell you folks. This is just controversy stirred up by this liar Michael Moore. Once this blows over, no one will want to see the film. 21 million is NOTHING for a modern movie.

So Moore can just keep cuddling up over there with Stuart Smalley. Those are the only people who will see this trashy Movie.

THOSE people aren't looking out for you. Moore is just out to make money. I'm looking out for you"

27. Farenheight: $21 M (1st weekend); Dodgeball $18M (this wk; 67.2 overall)
And I bet O'Reilly fans bought lots of Dodgeball tickets and sneaked into Farenheight 911.

25. And Titanic made 600+ million
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 12:08 AM by fujiyama
And Shreck 2 has made almost 400 million. What the hell is his F*ckin' point?

Yes, in two weeks Ben Stiller's movie has made more money, but that's what usually happens -- movies tend to make more money as time goes on...Maybe the concept of adding numbers is new to Drudge.

His comparison makes no sense. As for Dodge Ball itself, I saw it a few weeks ago...It wasn't that great and I think Ben Stiller is a funny guy (and my guess is, he's a liberal) I'm glad I didn't pay for it though.

F9/11 has made an impressive amount of money considering it is a documentary and is highly politically charged. The right wingers can spin it all they want -- the fact is it was still the #1 movie of this weekend.

According to box office mojo,

"In terms of raw dollars, Fahrenheit is actually the biggest opening ever for a movie playing at less than 1,000 theaters, topping Rocky III's $12.4 million at 939 venues. "

Granted, I can't really see it lasting. Spiderman 2 is coming out...I don't see anyone holding up to that.
