Protesters lash out at Bush, Cheney on economy, war and more

Detractors in front of Expo Center lay an array of problems at the feet of the administration.

Protesters welcomed Vice President Dick Cheney to Springfield Monday by blaming him for an array of perceived political blunders.
The ailing economy. The war in Iraq. The push to ban gay marriage. A record-breaking budget deficit.

All were cited as examples of how the Bush administration has failed the country and fueled anti-American hatred.

"We've got to change the politics of the United States," said Steve Hill of Springfield, a soft-spoken man wearing a yellow baseball cap. "The Bush and Cheney administration — that's not my America."

Hill, 51, was one of a handful of veterans pacing the sidewalk opposite the Expo Center who support the war on terrorism, but question the invasion of Iraq.

How WONDERFUL this is ! .... Here, in the midst of the Ozarkian Bible Belt, a VERY vocal ANTIBush population ... outnumbering the FReepers, as usual ....

Even as I drive around: I see FAR more Kerry bumperstickers than Bush ...

This made my day ... (well: this and Bev's threads )

1. I love this guy's line:
"That's not MY America". Every Democrat should be repeating those words every day in every interview in every campaign stop until election day. Kerry could run a whole ad campaign on that one slogan. It is catchy. Need to find the perfect photo to go along with the phrase.

2. Only if we have remotely trustworthy voting systems
One-fifth of all voters are "voting" touchscreen.

The Busheviks have pioneered disenfranchisement tactics, both manual and electronic.

We are in trouble.

November will tell, either way.

3. They have a little problem with that
winning hearts and mind part though. Don't despair.
