The Reagan Bounce scares me...
It's really depressing that despite all of the negative attention and the exposing of Bush/Cheney's lies over the last few months that the fact that a man who hasn't been in any kind of power for 24 years would be enough to convince enough people that another 4 years of Bush would be a good idea... :eyes: Is anyone else the least bit saddened that America is that stupid?

3. Don't panic yet.
These bounces are always temporary.

The capture of Saddam was a far more significant development in this Administration's favor, and even THAT bounce didn't last.

6. I dont believe it anyway
I think some of the media is spinning a big fat lie.

Remember how bad bush was supposed to beat gore? Oh yeah the media polling has it all fair, balanced and accurate...

4. I am very depressed today.
I am depressed at the stupidity of the American public.
I am depressed after watching clips of the Cheney interview where he insists on spreading lies and is such an asshole about it. He scares the living daylights out of me.
I am depressed about the beheading of a 3rd American and how the masses will now find Iraq justified.
I am depressed that the republicans have managed to collectively beat the democrats in getting a subpeona from Asscrack.
I could go on but you all see my point.

This is a very sad day for me.

15. It does get demoralizing at times doesn't it?
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 02:47 PM by tnlefty
I can't believe that so many are either this stupid or don't care and have let this mafia-style gang get away with as much as they have. Boggles my mind.

17. It is like this blind support. Bush can do *anything* and there are those
who will justify it, shill at how great he is because he is steadfast and moral. WTF? It doesn't help having a republican controlled congress who is assisting in covering up every scandal and you have Ollie North blaming the media for the prison torture and you have idiots like Club for Growth trying to manipulate the American public into thinking that Bush is the second coming of Reagan.

I honestly feel like I live in Nazi Germany and am called a traitor becasue I don't blindly believe all the propaganda that this administration spews daily. I have seen documentaries on Nazi Germany and a point of note was how brazen the Nazi's became in definging their enemies and hunting them down.

I am sure there are freepers all around the country gloating over the recent beheading saying "see, we need to be in Iraq. Boy, those torture photos seem like childs play now, let's see the media try to stick with that story." etc. I just know this is "good news" for them becasue is somehow justifies all the atrocities we have committed.

I don't even recognize my country anymore and I am very depressed.

7. Its extremely frightening
Take the excruciating bad news off the tube for a couple of days and all is quickly forgotten. The media has an unbelievably HUGE influence on public opinion in this country. This bodes poorly for our democracy...

8. It doesn't scare me
It's probably already over. A poll came out today showing Kerry ahead by 3 in West Virginia, a state Bush won by more than 6 percent in 2000.

Also, remember Plamegate is looming.

20. There ain't nothing in the world worth worrying about when it
comes to junior being elected in 04. Cuz it ain't gonna happen.

Fahrenheit 911 sure isn't gonna help junior, cheney getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar. The Plame thing will take off like a California wildfire. Enron isn't gonna help junior when everyone know his best bud (Kenny Boy) was a friend of the family.

The whole world hates this screwed up little boy and his family.

11. I wouldn't lose heart or hope about that. At least not yet.
First of all, as with all the other bounces bush has received, it's temporary. Another DUer here has, from time to time, posted a graph of all the polls and their resolutely downward trends. EVERY bounce is temporary and then things just slide back down. Usually down even a bit farther than the last slide was.

Second, as time goes on, the Reagasm and memories of it all fade. They just do.

Third, when the convention rolls around and they DO throw all those Reagan tributes around all over the place, they will be covered by the media. And INEVITABLY, there will be mentions of Nancy declining to speak at the REPUBLICAN CONVENTION, thereby blunting some of the effect and reminding people of that whole affair (after all, there will, somehow, somewhere, in some way, be an accompanying comment from some anchor, reporter, or pundit - maybe several - to remind us all WHY Nancy is not there, and what conflicts there are between her and the gop), AND the same goes for the comments Ron Junior made at his father's burial place. When he LITERALLY got the last word. It's been a week, already, and while all the razz-a-ma-tazz is over, people are STILL talking about that one. And it is still having repercussions. And THAT will come up again, flying in the face of all the Reagan tributes at the gop convention.

And those things will KEEP FLYING in the face of the republi-CONS.

Just give it a little time to seep in through more people's pores. It will. This is temporary. Do not let it get you down.

a little angry

I'm amazed at how many of my "friends" are stupid enough to just go with the media flow.

If TV spent 24X7 for a week telling people how tasty their own shit is, most Murkans would be chowing down on the brown.

No one has ever won the presidency with an approval rating that low at this point.

21. A Temporary Lead In The Mandate On Facism?
I don't buy this notion that the American public does not know about the torture at Abu Ghuraib, the administration's involvment in authorizing the torture, or the lack of Iraqi involvement in 9/11. Newsweek, Time, MSNBC and the Washington Post have all run several stories on these subjects. The information is out there, but people will believe what they want to believe.

Frankly, this is a mandate on Facism. The American people know what they are getting into. If Bush is elected, then it is a mandate by the electorate that Bush can invade countries without justification, torture and kill the opposition, limit the liberties of Americans at home, eliminate environmental protections, and increase the deficit for the benefit of the richest Americans.

It is beautiful and I had to use it somewhere -- photos come from all over the web.. usually takes me days to assemble them and find them..

this work took a full week..

a little distressing to work a week and then have 8 people post - makes me wonder if I'm wasting my time.

but thanks, for the comments and for making that very hep dime,

26. That is the scariest, nightmarish aspect of it all.
That America IS taken in, to a frightening degree, by the lies and posturing of the RW machine.

A classic study in mass popular delusion. When will we ever learn?
