Call me crazy, but I think F911 has a chance to be #1
Call me crazy, but I think F911 has a chance to be #1 it's opening weekend.

These are the other movies opening up around it:
Wed, 6/23:
White Chicks

Fri, 6/25:
F911
The Notebook
Two Brothers

Couple reasons:
1) There are no big movies that week.
2) The people that want to see this film, aren't going to wait a couple weeks... they are going to see it the opening weekend.

Imagine how pissed the rethugs would be if Michael Moore had a #1 movie?

I'm in. 6/25. :toast:

1. Theaters Will Overflow
I predict theaters will run this movie 24-7 (eventually) because the demand will be unprecedented. I saw on t.v. (ET) last night that O'liely was at the premeire of F 9/11. Someone from Village Voice was there (sorry, forgot his name) and said he saw O'liely there. There were probably others. hannity (probably in drag - UGLY!), ru$h (hannity's date - eeew!), de lay (with his friend, osama - who was in a tutu), etc. etc.

2. It won't have anywhere near enough screens-
but, I imagine that it will make quite an impact and pull in some pretty hefty receipts. The trades will definitely take notice of that, considering that it's a documentary. It might even pave the way for many more like it in the genre- which can only be a good thing.

4. Does anyone know what the latest screen count is?
He was originally hoping for 500, then when Lion's Gate joined in they said they will have at least 1,000. Now it's looking like more!

22. Isn't it ridiculous? An R rating? Does that mean CNN and MSNBC
are R rated TV stations? TV MA?

Mario Cuomo is trying to get a lesser rating.

16. Current screen counts are in the 400's.
I think a lot of theaters are wainting to see what it's rating is going to be. More will pick it up if it gets PG-13.

The initial reviews of it have been good. It even got a favorable review from Fox. While many have disputed the accuracy of many of Moores past movies, people don't seem to be disputing this one. So, it's possible that word of mouth may carry it a long ways.

However, I'd be shocked to see it hit #1. This is summer blockbuster season, where a movie grossing $15million it's first weekend is often considered a flop. I'm expecting one of this weeks openers (Terminal, Dodge Ball) to get big press and cost through next weekend as #1.

However, I do think F911 will do better than many expect for a documentary. Election year, good initial reviews, being different than the standard summer blockbuster action flicks (to get those people who don't need to see special effects.) It could have legs. Not blockbuster legs, but good legs for a documentary.

24. Its per-screen average will be through the roof.
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 08:37 AM by mark0rama
But depakote_kid is almost certainly right that it won't be on enough screens to take the top dollar amount.

Unfortunate, because those exhibitors who aren't too cowardly to show it, will probably be turning away above-capacity crowds.

(On edit: clarified last sentence.)

6. This Is A Weekend Premier #1 Lock...Just How Long?
Those repugnicans will be pissing nickels the last weekend of June...and probably well into the 4th of July as Moore's movie will be everywhere...and yes, Number 1 at the Box Office...I'm willing to bet big on this one. If anything, if it isn't the top movie I'd be really disappointed.

Remember BFC made $40 million...I will expect Fahrenheit will do far better. Also, the real great thing is the DVD should be available by September...Ideal or pre-election giving to undecided friend or your favorite Freeper relative.

Theater screen showing mean little if the theater doesn't promote it. Our local cineplex is notorious for putting the most popular movies on a few screens and then fill the rest with dogs...so those who want to see Movie A find all the tickets are sold and are "encouraged" to check out another flick...so there might by 50 or 100 people seeing "Earnest Saves Abu Dhabi" instead of what they want to see...or kill the time until that movie opens up.

The Freepers are gonna have a July from hell...Fahrenheit 911 will be the #1 movie, Clinton's book will be #1 on the NYT list and Bill Mahrer, Dave Letterman and John Stewart will be bashing and trashing this regime nightly. Oh, that's right, there's always Dennis Miller, Coultergeist's new book (titled "When Crack Babies Grow Up") and a great Hollywood event featuring Bo Derek, Charlie Daniels and a cameo by Alan Colmes...oh, yeah, that's right...that's the Jerry Lewis Telethon...Hey Laydeeeee.....

11. Don't forget
- "The Hunting of the President" (which will sadly fade in the light of F9/11)

- The Democratic Convention

- Kerry's running mate announcement

Should be a fun month.

14. Yes, My Friend...Lotssa Mustsee TV
Personally, I'm looking forward to the Lyons/Connason movie more than Fahrenheit 911...and even the GOOP convention. By then imagine how many more lies this regime will have to be held accountable for. I get a sense we'll see a good schism in that big tent by then and the knives will be out. The blame game will already be in full spin and all we have to do is watch 'em eat each other. It will be a delight!

Last night my wife and I listened to Hannity on the radio and laughed our asses off. His desperation was so pathetic and his disconnect from the real world moving further away from him is as amusing now as it was one that provoked anger just a few months ago. Listening to Hannity scream the meme "Kerry wants us to have a depression" and claiming the economy is booming more today than it has in the last 20 years is so out of reality even the Sci-Fi Channel won't touch it.

Even worse was the local "babe" who followed on WLS. She started out on a small black-owned station and got a shot at the big time...and to do so she had to play black female right wingnut...talk about a minority in a minority in a minority. It's obvious by listening to her that she really doesn't understand the talking points she reads every night and now is having problems trying to square the lies that she's been fed and read to what a growing majority of Americans, and her listeners, are believing. I'd say her future broadcast prospects look bleak...until Salem hires her...LOL.

Cheers!

So, F911 can be #1 the weekend of 6/25 and Spiderman 2 will be #1 the next weekend.

10. Might not have enough screens
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 07:25 AM by RatTerrier
So far, it looks like the max it will open on is 1000. Compare that with a blockbuster major studio film, which may be three times as many.

F9/11 will definitely have the highest take per screen, but films like this will have staying power. While the blockbusters shoot their wad and fall quickly, this one will be around for awhile. B4C stayed in the art houses for months, and the best example, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was in theaters for what seemed like forever, growing from limited release.

F/911 seems to have the same strategy. Over time, it should expand to more screens. It will be around for awhile. The seem to be taking the 'marathon, not a race' approach, which seems smart.

I do see a strong top 5 debut.

15. Yep. The big ones get 4000 screens. This is key.
If you really want to help Moore go to the 11AM showings.
They'll have to sell out EVERY seat for every show with just 1000.

19. agreed
It does not have enough screens to make it to #1. I'd be ecstatic if it was top 5. But, next weekend is a good time for it to open, as Chronicles of Riddick will have faded, and Stepford Wives did not open with a bang... 'Potter' will be in its 3rd week or 4th week and 'Shrek' a week or two more than Potter. However, The Terminal with Tom Hanks & Catherine Zeta-Jones opens this week. My educated guess is that Harry Potter & The Terminal will finish ahead of Moore's film. However, F 9/11 will have the highest per screen average.

I'm planning on going opening weekend to see F 9/11. Opening night will be tough.

17. I agree it's going to open big.
Maybe even huge. Here in the Kansas City area (looking at both the Missouri and the Kansas side), it's only opening in 8 theaters.

Remember Bowling for Columbine? I have no idea how many theaters that played in, but it was consistently sold out. The mega-plex I saw it in put it in one of their smaller theaters, which was a mistake. Hopefully, it will open in more theaters as they realize what the demand will be.

As good as Bowling was, it wasn't well crafted. The emotional high point came only a third of the way in, when all those slides were being shown to the tune of What a Wonderful World and then the clip of the second hit on the WTC was shown. Had that been moved to the end of the movie it would have been even better. I'm sure Moore has crafted a far better movie this time. It doesn't sound as it won the Palm d'Or at Cannes just because the jury wanted to stick it to Bush and his minions, but because the movie was genuinely worth it.

I can hardly wait to see it.

Thank you so much for this website... I didn't know there were other Fahrenheit 9/11 clips out there!

By the way... the movie still hasn't lined up a theater in Cincinnati. I'm going to have to go to Dayton to see it, it looks like. :-(

Move America Forward is trying to pressure theaters not to show the film. Once they see how much business it is doing it will get much wider distribution.

I've heard of many trying to get prints for it. Any kind of controversy is the best publicity, and theater owners realize this.

Hell, I expected a good art house run.

26. I checked one of on-line movie ticket web site...
The one I checked is www.moviefone.com

Guess what it is #1 in the raking of most requested movie!!
I think more theaters should show this movie since many many people want to see this movie.

I live in Baltimore and none of multiplex we usually go will be showing. So we will go to an arty theater called 'Charles Theater' in downtown. This theater is very small. We are afraid there will be a long line and I don't think we can see it the opening weekend.
