Bush Takes Anti-Gay Campaign To Southern Baptists
(Washington) Just over a week after President George Bush sought the help of the Vatican in his reelection campaign he has taken his call for an amendment to the Constitution banning gay marriage to the country's largest Protestant denomination.

"The union of a man and woman is the most enduring human institution, honored and encouraged in all cultures and by every religious faith," the President said.

"And government, by strengthening and protecting marriage, serves the interests of all."

In a speech that did not name Democrats or John Kerry by name, Bush hit the three key issues he hopes will rally conservative Christians to support him in the GOP in November: gay marriage, abortion and cloning. Earlier this week the Southern Baptists voted to quit the Baptist World Alliance accusing it of being too liberal toward gays. (story)

1. He is pandering for the bigot vote.
That *should* turn away semi-intelligent swing voters/independents. This guy gets more dangerous every single day.

2. Good, have Bush leave the campaign there as well...
...Southern Baptists can toss that issue around among themselves up to and beyond the November election. Maybe we'll see two medical male symbols with an X through them on the back of cars next to the fish symbols. Hate and faith, they seem to go together.

3. Gee, that's a bit like taking you anti-Black campaign to the KKK.
Talk about preaching to the choir.

4. It indicates panic in the White House that at this point....
...Bush is pandering to his base rather than running to the middle like most candidates do at this point.

5. The dumbass probably thinks he IS in the middle.
He is so delusional he probably *thinks* the whole country is a religious zealot just like him. He must be defeated this November because I refuse to allow my kids to grow up in a country where hate is considered the christian way.

7. I wonder if Bush mentioned...
... that Chump Cheney's daughter Mary, who is gay, is on the payroll of the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign to the tune of six figures. Not to mention I wonder how Mary Cheney sleeps at night.

10. Mary Cheney wants Daddy's trust fund.
Hey, if she wants to wait for Daddy's fatal heart attack just to get her inheritance, that's fine. But I don't want to hear one more word how this woman is supposed to be a "friend" to the gay community. She's a goddammed traitor, as far as I'm concerned.

9. God, this makes me puke. This is pure hate.
Bush is rolling out the homophobia again. Just a replay of 1992.

Bush just might as well give hatemonger Rick Santorum a keynote address spot at the Convention in New York, talking about the "threat" of gay marriage, and it WILL be like 1992.

And I dearly, sincerely, hope that this backfires on them. Again, just like 1992.
