Book Recommendations Wanted
I just received my Amazon.com reward certificate in the mail and would like to buy some good political reads for the summer.

I confess that I have not been in a bookstore in some time and I am unfamiliar with a lot of the new books out there exposing the truth.

Anyone have a recommendation for me as to what I should read?

1. Hoo-boy
There are probably a dozen good books. So far of the ones I've read, Krugman's The Great Unravelling has been the most important, imho.

5. I second the Krugman recommendation
Excellent read. If you haven't read it, "The Lies of *" by David Corn is also excellent.

25. I thought the "Great Unraveling" got boring. I would recommend
"Lying Liars" by Al Franken, it's much easier to read than the dryness of the "Great Unraveling."

10. Let's fire up the "Way-Back" machine...
Hell in a Very Small Place: the Siege of Dien Bien Phu by Bernard B. Fall

Dereliction of Duty: Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Lies That Led to Vietnam, by H. R. McMaster.

Two must-reads that set the stage for the very small hells we find ourselves in now: Iraq, Afganistan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and who knows where else.

17. I had trouble with Wilson's book
Massive tome on the life of a diplomat...interesting, but not what I'd been hoping for. I'll go read it again after the craziness comes to an end.

18. Welcome to DU, Ginaz!!

Happy Posting!!

:toast:

I skipped his personal story and went straight for the
dirt on who he thinks outed his wife. I also enjoyed
reading about his media adventures after Novak did the
deed.

:hi:

I dived right in when the CIA tasked him to go to
Niger to find out about the veracity of the Iraq]\
uranium purchase.

It was still good, though.

You're welcome.

12. Start by getting your baloney detection kit from the Demon Haunted World
Carl Sagan's great work. This should be a must read in highschool. It can give you a stable ground from which to explore all questions around you.

19. There are so many good books out there, but I'd get Clinton's book.
It's going to be comprehensive, it's going to affirm democratic falues, and it's going to set the tone of the political discussions, so I might pass up Pallast, Stiglitz, Phillips, Brock and Krugman and go straight to Clinton.
