Why shouldn't the American people lose all confidence in the information..
their government is giving them from the CIA about weapons of mass destruction, about terrorism, and who knows what else?

SEC'Y POWELL: And the term "misleading" in the context of the earlier interview was that the sources were misleading, not the agency was misleading. The sources were misleading. With respect to this report, if you read the report, you will see that, in narrative form, it gives a solid picture of the challenge we are facing with terrorism. It doesn't downplay terrorism in the slightest. But, unfortunately, the datathat is within the report, the actual numbers of incidents, is off. It's wrong. And I am regretful that this has happened. We're going to get it fixed. We're going to get it corrected. And that's the best I can do.

MR. RUSSERT: But the information given to you to go before the United Nations also inaccurate, wrong. What's wrong? What's going on?

SEC'Y POWELL: Well, we've got to get to the bottom of that, Tim. And with respect to this terror report, we're going to get to the bottom of it tomorrow.

--And then maybe they can help OJ find the real killers---:eyes:

1. LOL
republicans saying "we are going to get to the bottom of it". Like they delved into finding out who outed Ms. Plame? What a disgusting bunch of scumbuckets this misadministration is. And Colin - any f***ing shred of dignity he may have had is long, long gone. He is, in my opinion, a poor excuse for a human being, let alone a cabinet member. What a whore.

3. Why can anybody still believe "official sources"?
I cannot imagine why the public and the media have not lost all faith in governments since many years.

If I remember correctly, the WMD lie is not the first one told by a government. Anybody remember Pearl Harbor, Gulf of Tonking, Incubator story before Gulf war 1, only to name a few of the big ones?

Naturally the media is not innocent but they play along deliberately. That is why the "apology" by the NY Times cannot be accepted. Only an extremely naive person would believe that they did not know better before the war.

4. Lies and covers make for news
and then there's the corrections... all these things fill broadcasts and newspapers and sell more copies. Naturally they are complicit!

5. It's not just CIA DoD and State
Misinformation has also been supplied by DHSS, Environmental Protection Agency and (probably) Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

We can't believe any "official sources" coming out of DC these days.

6. I just finished reading John Dean's book
Worse Than Watergate it is excellent. Dean says that secrecy in government results in many things--one of which is that the people simply lose trust in their government--on both sides of the aisle. Bush , of course, is head of the most secret of any US government ever.

Although Dean seems to think, as I am sure we all do here, that consideration for one's citizens, the Constitution and the welfare of it's citizens who must be informed and must know what is being done in order to make decisions about it's leaders in the voting booth, is the crux of democracy, I am convinced that Bush, all of them, the entire family, could give a shit about the people, because they consider themselves entitled and Cheney--well Cheney is just plain evil, greedy and a psychopath.

7. In a perverse way, its easy to tell what's going on
Whatever the administration says is true, is a lie.

Whatever the administrations says is a lie, is true.

10. Unfortunately, it's not so easy
even though you know that most of what they tell you is wrong, you don't know the truth, because the world is not black/white (as Bush wants the people to believe).

9. Only one part of the equation is being reported
I believe that of the 21,000 jobs "created" in February (later "updated" to 39,000) 20,000 were government jobs-just like Saint Ronnie's expanding the size and scope of government plan.

I think it was April (maybe March) when the MAGICAL 308,000 jobs were "created". Aside from what kind of jobs (70% were part time) not being reported on, the FACT that unemployment ROSE by a 1/10th of a percent- there was still a net loss of jobs.

We heard "308,000""308,000""308,000"! but almost no one mentioned that the unemployment number still went up-that number is wrong too of course as it does not include those who no longer are receiving benefits, must be "self employed".
