How Much Disrespect Is OK For Dems To Level at Reagan?
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 09:26 PM by stopbush
I'd say this: as much disrespect as Republicans heap on Bill Clinton and Al Gore, but at a multiple of 10.

Strip away the popluar MYTHS surrounding these three guys and compare their actual records, and I think you'll see that I'm correct...though I may be underestimating that multiple a bit.

1. Wait a week, then let him have it.
Wait for the man's body to cool, first.

3. If you disapproved of his policies

A modicum of disrespect is appropriate.

If you were personally harmed by his policies, a somewhat greater level of disrespect should be respected.

If you lost a loved one to his policies, piss on anyone who tells you not to piss on his grave.

6. Let's see, I lost at least 50 friends in NYC to AIDS during
Reagan's Reign of Error. I guess that puts me in the last category.

8. Say "America will always be in his debt."
The people who get it get it, and the others think you're being respectful.

10. The truth is bad enough, one doesn't need to insult anyone.
Just the facts, and here's just a few:

Trickle down economics is a total failure, with the money obviously going into fat bonuses and salaries rather than into the capital that creates jobs.

Purposefully ignoring the initiation of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, resulting in many thousands of un-necessary deaths.

Focus grouping, remember "Morning in America", brought to dominance in political "discourse" that results in brainwashing voters.

Give it all ya got. He deserves every bit of it. And now is the time to do it. You wouldn't believe how many people are finally getting the real story of RR. Hell, I'd forgotten most of this shit over the years and was just about to give him a pass. Damn, am I glad to be here, now.

Let it Rip!

12. What's "disrespectful" about reviewing the entirety of his record?
Unless, of course, the massacre at El Mozote never happened. And all those Marines didn't really die in Lebanon. And his administration didn't really trade arms for hostages and use the proceeds to fund nun-killers.

But it's "disrespectful" to notice the blood-stains on the coffin. How gauche of me!

13. As Americans, we have traditions..
Our tradition is to honor the death of our leaders. RR was a duely elected official. I hated his policies but I honor the "office" at this time. All countries honor their leaders whether they liked them or not. It's civilized.

Let's go through the decorum of honoring his passing BUT let's not allow the right to blow him up like a Godman. He wasn't!

yeah, we'll wait a bit longer--some have already started (including me)--then we'll really let them have it.

16. Here's what Dems and Greens should do about Reagan:
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 10:00 PM by DaveSZ
Tell the truth about him, and the criminals who served in his cabinet.

It's that simple, and there's no need for hyperbole.

17. I read this good little piece from David Corn ....
Some things I'd forgotten about, some localized and not reported
in Australia, and one that stopped me in my tracks: "Facts are
stupid things".

That's a quote worthy of G.W. Bush - did he really say that?

18. I have a different take....
I don't say amount of respect or disrespect as "OK" or "not OK" to say, per se, by all means speak your mind as you see fit, that's what life is about in the US.... But what you do say, as with everything else you say, is a reflection on you.... people know another person by both words and deeds. In fact... speaking words is a "deed" if you think about it.

Only actions speak louder... B-)

Heyo

19. It should always be okay to tell the truth about our former Presidents
If the truth is disrespectful, that's the Republicans' problem.
