Kerry needs to announce his VP soon!
Otherwise this Reagan mourning will grow out of hand to become a big GOP "rally the troops, win one for the gipper" circle jerk. Kerry has to diffuse the situation and deflect attention by announcing his VP and soon. I suggest 2 days after the funeral Kerry announces a decision is forthcoming to get the media scrambling and guessing, 5 days after that he announces.

4. I agree here too----let the Repubs have a week of mourning Reagan,
and then change the news discussion to talks of a possible VP in the near future. I'm sure this is what the Kerry campaign is thinking now.

Who do you think will be his VP btw?
Is it Edwards who's most likely and what most Democrats wants?

14. Yeah
CNN polls (and other polls, I just usually use the CNN ones) say he's the most likely choice.

7. Not a good idea
Anything Kerry does this week will be overshadowed by Reagan's death.

Wait until the mourning passes.

9. Win one for the Gipper works now...
but is that going to be an effective rallying call in a month? I think not. Let this story unfold, let the Plame story come out again, let the 9/11 commission release its report, let the Tenet story die down. Then announce veep.

11. I know there's no chance of this,
but Howard Dean should be the VP. He's the only one who truly energizes the party. It's former Deaniacs who are remaining active and revitalizing the Democrats, NOT supporters of Kerry, Edwards, or any of the other men. (Kucinich people are pretty die-hard, but there's not that many of them).

I was in Washington DC these past few days at the Take Back America Conference (did anyone else from DU attend?) and easily half of the people there are Dean people. And the good governor got by far the loudest and most enthusiastic welcome of anyone.

I'm going to wear my Re Defeat Bush button between now and November.

12. Last Possible Moment At The Convention
Here is what I think. I think that John Kerry should not make his decision known until the latest possible moment at the convention. I think that he should appear several times first but not disclose his choice. He should do this to draw attention to as much of the convention as possible. All the while, up until he announces, there should be speach after speach detailing the crimes, misdees, and simple stupidity of the last Administration. Keep hinting at multiple VP choices and let the rumors run rampant, it will cause more people to watch the convention. Then announce Clark's name. What, you didn't think I'd miss the opportunity did you?

18. Then What Does Kerry Do At The Convention? Kiss His Wife???
Right now Raygun's sucking the air out of Chimpster's air more than he is Kerry's. Yep, we'll have to endure a week of non-stop Raygun worship, but better now than in September and it won't stop all the scandals that are closing in on this regime...also a clock ticking in Iraq that doesn't care about either the Gimpster or the Chimpster.

Kerry is playing this game for the marathon it is. We've got a long way til November and right now it's hoping the other guy is using up more of his energy and strength so he won't have much when the final kick comes in October.

Remember a couple things. One is Kerry is known as a very strong "finisher"...many wrote him off when he beat Weld and then in the primaries. Second is how terrible the Bush "team" was in '92. I kept remembering how Jim Baker in those days was going to do the Karl Rove of 2004. The more I look at it, the more striking the comparison is. Poppy Bush lost as much by his own inept campaign as anything else, and his spawn appears to be heading in that same direction.

19. I think...
... this death will dominate the media for a week to 10 days and will then fade into history. The announcing of a VP candidate now would barely get a mention, in fact - it will never get all that much more than a mention because as we all know "vice president isn't worth a bucket of warm spit".
