Native son Michael Moore not invited to first-ever Flint Film Festival
Missed the Sundance Film Festival in January? Couldn't get a hotel room in Cannes?

Consider Flint. But don't expect to rub elbows with native son Michael Moore while you're here. The blue-collar city of 125,000, the backdrop for Moore's 1989 documentary Roger and Me, is preparing for its inaugural Flint Film Festival. It begins Friday with an opening gala and concludes Sunday with an awards party. Festival-goers will have their choice of 29 works by independent filmmakers from as far away as Germany.

"People who've never been to a film festival will quickly find out this is the real heart of film making," said festival chairman Greg Fiedler.

But Moore, who now lives in New York, was not invited and his latest film, the anti-Bush documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, will not be shown, Fiedler said.

Imagine that! Flint's claim to film fame is Michael Moore yet as they throw a film festival to build on that reputation, they snub Moore.

2. Flint would fair better
if someone held a Jobs Festival instead of a film festival.

What's the unemployment there..9% and the State had to take over the city because they could not pay their bills?

You would think they might have a little gratitude, other than GM, who is gone, Moore put Flint on the map.

4. Really, this speaks wonderfully
about Flint. I wouldn't think that the politics constitute a major problem. Of course, we know it's not necessarily the people speaking.

It has to hurt Michael, I would think.

3. Write to them
I just wrote to the film festival email address and told them off (in fairly polite terms).

5. I expect a lockdown
on most dissident films, books, and people to start in earnest soon. I don't know how successful they'll be, but by Labor Day or so it will be all-GOP, all the time.

6. he skewered Flint in "Roger and Me"
I could easily see how the movers and shakers in Flint wouldn't be big fans of Mike.

8. before we jump all over them
do we know what kind of filmmakers were invited? Perhaps Moore is just a little too big for the inaguaral Flint festival. He's a Plume de Whatever winner, after all.
