The other gay Bravo show
There has been lots of talk about Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and what it may or may not mean for the acceptance of gays. While this show is amusing and they have done marvelously well making over straight dudes and their surrondings, this is really the second best of the current crop of Bravo gay series.

I strongly suggest Boy meets Boy which is a reality dating show where a gay man and his lady friend try to pick out a guy from amongst 20 eligable gay men. The hook is that some of the men are really straight. Neither the man nor the women know this nor do the other contestents know who is who. At the end of the show the ones who are sent packing are labeled as to being straight or gay. It has been interesting to hear about the straight closet from the straight contestents.

I think that this may do more to put being gay in a both positive and realistic light than anything else. It has been especially fun to see one of the straight constestents get his cover lie messed up. I think many gays can relate to that. I hope this show doesn't get lost in the Queer Eye hype.

1. Queer Eye is set to jump the shark very soon
with their "makeover" of multi-millionaire Jay Leno.

I really like the show (Queer Eye) and think it's a damn shame that the folks at NBC don't know how to keep their grubby little hands off a good thing.

2. NBC owns Bravo
so it is their thing so to speak. My favorite so far was tonight's with the crew member. He was so ridiculous but then so sweet too. I also loved that guy who was proposing. Man he was the definition of hot.

but that doesn't mean they've gotta commit incest, does it?

4. if incest gets ratings..... OH BROTHER!

I think both shows in their own way are breaking ground.

as a gay man in his (ahem, late) 40s, my perspective is what it is.

the fab five, in their own ways, are eclectic and ultimately kind and generous.

boy meets boy, esp. in its exit interviews with the closeted 'straights' is quite telling--while the easy affection and physicality is positive as well....

6. as I stated in my previous, I like Queer Eye…
I haven't had a chance to watch Boy Meets Boy yet, but I plan to in the future.

I just think that GE is doing themselves a disservice by trying to leverage Queer Eye in an attempt to enhance NBC's sagging ratings.

In the end, I think it'll end up doing more harm to Queer Eye than good for NBC.

what I find most appealing about Queer Eye is that they're making-over average Joes...not people that don't need makeovers in the first place, or those that could damn well afford their own makeover if they did.

13. don't jump into boy meets boy in the middle
i'd strongly suggest that you wait for the reruns and catch it from the begining. i was a little uncomfortable with the 'fraud' aspect, in that some of the guys were hetros posing as gays BUT....

now that the pretenders are being unmasked, their exit interviews are awesome. bigotry and preconceptions....melting before our eyes.

start from the first episode though and try and spot the straights...

5. I haven't seen either
(saw a few minutes of Queer Eye one night)

I'm just glad to see a mainstream American channel broadcasting these types of shows.

7. How true
I am old enough to remember Brothers on Showtime having a gay character and making sure to watch it every week (on the sly to be sure as I didn't want my parents to know). There were very few shows that had any gay presence at all back then. What a difference a couple of decades makes.

8. I love
Queer Eye for a Straight Guy, but the one thing I don't like about Boy Meets Boy is that some of the guys are straight. This doesn't make any sense to me. It would be like putting a few lesbians on The Bachelor...what's the point?

9. I think the point is to give it a twist
otherwise it'd just be a gay version of The Bachelor.

10. I saw it last night
Dan was gorgeous. It's too bad he turned out to be straight.

11. I've never seen this show. I can't watch it. It seems so cruel.
I'm not gay, so my opinion isn't so relevant. But it just seems mean to me.

12. I watched it last night
in between Queer Eye episodes.

It's as dumb and pointless as the straight versions.

14. I watched the first episode of...
...Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. That show lost me with the scene of the one "makeover" guy sniffing the straight guy's jock strap. NO!!!
