Lieberman booed tonight in Oklahoma
Tonight at the Presential candidate forum at Oklahoma State University were Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich; Former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun; Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt; Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.

When the candidates were discussing the war against Iraq, Liberman was booed when he said that "some of his Democratic colleagues run the risk of not knowing a just war when they see it."

13. Thanks for this! I liked this part, too!
"Dean got a standing ovation when he said he believes most people would pay the same taxes they paid while Bill Clinton was president if they had the same economy"!

Poor us Americans! We just want our Peace and Prosperity Back!

33. Dean was fantastic but many candidates got standing ovations.
Except Lieberman. There was no doubt about it that this was Dean’s night but each of them, except Joe, made great points and received enthusiastic response.

4. I would have booed him too for that remark
a just war is a war where a president doesn't have to lie to the American people and the world to convince the congress, nation, and world to support his war.

6. Sadsack Joe... just can''t quite figure out that pissing core dem groups
off is NOT going to win the nomination. And he hasn't quite grasped, that within the party even in "red states" dems are often anti bush and anti bush policy and sometimes... antiwar.

Six Democratic hopefuls make pitch in Oklahoma
2003-08-12
By Ron Jenkins
Associated Press Writer

STILLWATER, Okla. - Democratic presidential hopefuls came Tuesday to a state virtually ignored in past races, bringing with them their criticism of the Bush administration.
Six of the nine candidates spoke at Oklahoma State University on health care, the economy and how they would have handled the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks.

"I say this is the time for the United States to admit it made a mistake in attacking Iraq," said Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who says Bush has eroded relationships with the United Nations and the world community.

Former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun said Bush's approach has "frittered away all the good will we had" and said she wants U.S. troops out of Iraq.

But "we have a moral obligation to at least put that country back in shape," she said. "We can't just leave, having blown them up."

30. hmmmmmmmmm......... double speak?
"I am the one Democrat who can take Bush on where he's supposed to be strong, security and mainstream values," said Lieberman, and that made him the best candidate to take on the "right-wing agenda" that he called Bush's weakness.

I take him on, on his security issues - by saying that the way he diverted resources, energy and attention away from the real threat (Al qaeda) to a manufactured threat, was a really good thing. (where is he taking him on again?).

I take him on, on the right-wing agenda - but I support faith-based initiatives, privatization of public schools (vouchers), I want us not to go after corporate corruption too hard, and....... (where is he valiently taking Bush on in a way that no other Democrat is doing?)... oh ya, and yesterday he said that the democrats are no longer of "big government" and instead of rethinking healthcare issues.. that HE would let POOR people BUY into medicare! WooHoo Joe (and where does the family living on minimum wage have the excess money to buy into medicare?).

Sorry.

Yes from time to time he does go after the Administration.

Then he turns around and praises them or supports them on an effort that is NOT representative of many democats (re: voters).

I swear, with each passing week, it seems like he is working hard to run away from getting the nomination.

19. Retire, don't resign
I'm not sure if you mean resign from the race (he should leave) or from his Senate seat. If you mean from his senate seat, keep it mind that Gov. John Rowland (R) would replace him. I'd much rather Lieberman be replaced by a Democrat in 2006 (whether by retirement or by primary).

21. Dear Joe
It is remarkable that you describe the War on Iraq as a "just war." The clerics who think about and write about "just war" theory said it didn't meet the criteria. The Pope said it didn't meet the criteria. Or did you just misspeak and mean to say: "The war on Iraq was just a war...no biggie"? Maybe? Maybe you are just a war-whore...no biggie.

with whatever is the current century. Holy Joe seems locked two or three hundred years in the past.
Invading Iraq is a 'just war.' Sure, Joe.

25. Maybe Joe is auditioning for a spot on SNL
His campaign seems to be a skit from that raucas comedy show. Maybe he didn't realize that Al Gore was spoofing him on that show in December last year, not paying him a compliment.

And we were worried that Al Sharpton would disgrace the Democratic Party. It turns out that Rev Sharpton is the truly entertaining part of the Democratic Party and Lieberman is the most embarrassing part.

38. Politicians and clergy
If a politician says a war is "just" and almost all clergy do not, I think it is pretty safe to assume it is not.

Why do these pols, including *, claim this when only the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons of the religious world support them on this stance?
