all over California. The Democratic Party is taking a "ho hum" attitude over this and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Actually, I can. I went to the California Democratic Convention this last February and got an eye and earful. Sad to say, it was pathetic. People jockeying for position, pulling power plays, wanting their own little feifdoms and NOBODY is focusing on the issues -- all the while the California Democratic Committee -- a VERY liberal part of the Democratic wing -- is dying a slow death. They had to "postpone" their annual convention this year due to lack of sign-ups -- they weren't even going to meet their costs. They're going to try it again in August. Meanwhile, new, fresh, activists like yourself try to get involved and are discouraged at every turn.
Its all a wierd mixture of old-school types who have been involved in California politics for YEARS and will NOT give up their positions no matter how wrong or apathetic they are and "new" Democrats who mirror the DLC. We've done an abysmal job in reaching out to traditional Democrats: Minorities, Unions, Seniors, etc. The only thing saving the California Democratic party at the moment are California Democratic VOTERS and I don't think even that will be enough to stem the tide of HUGE $$$ and network resources from the Republicans.
I'd love to report better news to you but I'm in the thick of it and I'm getting more disgusted everyday. This is ONE reason why the Greens have made so many inroads in this state.
